Sierra Rock Lights (underbody)

Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone has set up rock lights on their Sierra?
If so, what did you use and where did you put them?
My current plan is 6 spotlight/driving lights - to be placed between the body and the chasis rails (there is room there due to a 2" body lift).
Per chasis rail I'm guessing 1 in front of the front tire, 1 in the middle near the x-fer case / hand brake area and 1 near the rear of the fuel tank.
Has anyone done something similar to this? What lights did you use?
thanks.
Greg

Sounds way cool!
I reckon just make sure the wheels are going to scrub on them if u have large tyres and lots of travel

joey did that, they got smashed and mudded to death..be careful to get very water proof lights, and position them to avoid the mud splashes...or get cheap ones that are easy to replace....the extra side light is very nice, especially at night

Greg, I got some little oval shaped aunger ones from BigW ,Think was $25 for the pair there 50watt ,halogen came with a switch and wiring,They arn't super waterproof but for the price are ok,I didn't use the switchs I found some at jaycar that fit well into the spare switch mounting area to the right of the steering column,
We mounted the front lights on the inside of the chassis rail facing to the inside of the oppisite wheel ,just infront of the engine mounts.
The switch is powered up by the parking circiut,so once your lights are on you can light your rock lights ,
For the rears i biult a cavety in my rear bar for the same type of light ,
We made the mistake of wiring these to the reversing lights this is no good, Specialy if your nav is trying to walk behind the car ,wire up same as front.

I went ahead with these and bought 2 x $20 100W driving rectangular driving lights from K-mart... They have been installed under the front seats above the chasis rails and just infront of the rear wheel well.
Pointing forward and outward at 45 degrees they light up the ground very nicely. But i still plan on adding a few more and maybe installing some mesh over the top of them for protection.
I'll get some photo's up in the near future. Quite a simple and so far effective job.

I've got 6 under my POS......two out the back, two in the middle tucked up above the chassis rail out of harms way and two out the front.
at night you can drive using these alone, no more blinding the car or spotter in front of you with spotties and headlights.

okay okay...
sorry guys, i don't have access to a digital camera so it will take me a while get these pics done...
i still have an issue with it in that i keep on blowing up fuses (2 so far), not sure if it is due to water getting on the lights or not - both times have been when they are on and i am driving accross wet road. may be an issue that i'll fix up in the future.
note however that the car is about to receive a new body so the lights will have to move soon anyway...

you can get 12v pond lights from garden places, fully waterproof and good and solidly built.

Cool idea on the garden lights, though do they have convenient mounts like the normal spotties most ppl r using?
I didnt think we'd get this much "tech" out of such a pissy thread

there are a few different types of mounts.. there is one type that pretty closely resembles a normal spotlight u-bracket thingie...
There is a suction cup mount if you are feeling confident

i run a few lights/spots, they're not rock lights underneath, but i run a rear work light and i have mounted a 100watt spot on the front of the car just above the plenum, this is to assist with deep water crossings or if i end up in a deep ditch and need to see whats above. I was particular when mounting the spots, as i didnt want them smashed. The past week i have subjected the zook to some serious off-road duties, and after returning home i noticed that the rear work light had a smashed lense. The light sits almost level with the roof and had a plastic cover on it, however this still didnt stop it from copping a beating from rocks.
When mounting them in the future i will seriously consider some tougher lenses and/or covers. Pain in the arse!!!

Ok im not going all rice here but has anyone thought of using white or clear neons. They are easy to mount and put out a lot of white lite not the eye blinding kind most spotties put out.
Yes NAM i know you want to use blue ones

i wouldn't use neons. they're not durable enough and require high voltage via a transformer. we wanna stick to 12V with relatively low wattage. i guess effectiveness comes down to mounting position so that the light doesn't cast shadows, and the lens/reflector combination for a good spread of light.
neons just not suited for anything but ttc show and shine and the mall. having said that, i would probably get neons just for cruising (but i'd take them off for offroad).

I am thimking of mounting mine behind my shock hoops so they are protected coz i dont have a bodylift to mount them between the chassis.

I will be putting 6 rock lights under my zook next week.
All i got was 2 small round spot lights(the ones you see on the front of all the rice cars) And 4 small rectangle spot lights.
I will try to get some pics

Have a look at Jaycar's little neon lights, they are cheap and small at only 3mm and 5mm diameter and put out a decent bit of light.
www.jaycar.com.au
I have been looking at these for mine.
cheers
