G'Day All,

Looking at getting a 85 62 series on ULP/LPG.
Are they a trustworthy truck? Is there anything I should look out for?
Eg: Rust, (where are they know to rust out?)

Any opinions welcome,

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Luke.

Yeah, top truck, if you can find one without too much rust... Unlimited posibilites for more lift, bigger tyres, lockers, engine conversion, and you can even sleep in the back... wat more do you need!

Have a look in this thread for some more on what to look out for...

Hell, I've had mine forever. I have a 1985 FJ62 with a 3F motor. Watch out for rust in the inside of the "A" pillar and around the roof line just above the gutter, especially at the back. Otherwise, bloody reliable truck. I also have a 100 series but can't bear to ger rid of the old bus, it's too reliable. Parts are dirt cheap too, check out Sunshine State parts:

or look on ebay.

had mine since 1992 is as reliable as anything i have ever owned , as stated the roof line rust is something to keep on top of , no pun intended lol, have had mine repainted but hey after all these years its worth it , do keep the timing spot on they will burn valves if to advanced on gas especially , and remember for all its good points it is basically a "tractor motor" not some hot rod so dont expect to be the first past the post, but you will always get there , oh yeah they like to go through points so a tune every 6 months with new points is a good bit of maintenance , thats the reason i am chasing a good electronic ignition set up

Coming up to 8 years I've had mine - it is diesel.

But these trucks are as solid as. Rust in the roof line fiind it,sort it out quick and you'll never have to think of it again.

Heres mine

WOO55Y

My wife said no to a new truck - not enough go or tough enough to play i reckon thats significant. ;)

word of advice. Get rid of the silver trimming across the roof gutters. They speed up the rust appearing on the roof.

Get a Flashlube kit it will save your valves when using gas. I have one and it costs me $60 and is more then worth it.
