Hi,
HAve a vitara 1.6 94 LWB.
I installed extractors and a 2 inch exhaust system a few years ago. I really dont like the sound, its annoying on long trips etc and am finally determined to do something about it.
Any ideas on where to find a cheap 2 inch resonator?

Dad hated the sound in his Sierra with 2" exhaust. He hot two bits of flat cut with hole saw 2" outer dia. and 1" inner dia. Then he drilled six holes around it evenly. These two were then welded onto the end of about 100mm long piece of 1" steel tube which itself had many holes drilled in its sides. Then this was wrapped in steel wool. This was shoved up the end of the exhaust and welded onto the end flush. Small hole drilled in the loest point for drainage.
Now it sounds like rushing air really fast, but no real exhaust noise. Really weird compared to mine, but it definitly works. And he still gets good economy, and much better acceleration.

GREAT!!!
So if I get this correctly, I can essentially build my own.
Holes in the inner pipe, around that steel wool (to muffle sound)?
If only I had known it was going to be that easy!!!
I drive 4 hours each way to work some weeks in it, it is very noisy, a rushing air sound is fine with me....

A) Just get an exhaust shop to put a 12" hot dog in it. They're cheap as chips and normally tune the sound quite nicely.
B) Take it to an exhaust shop and tell them what you don't like about the note and get some advice, you might be surprised how cheaply they can fix it.
All due respect, but building your own resonators will be pretty hit and miss IMHO, especially anything you just shove up the pipe.
