dynamic rope stretches, so i dont imagine it would be very good being spooled onto a winch under strain... and would prehaps negate the fact that rope is meant to minimise the chance of shackles becoming projectiles....
unless they have stoped making it stretch since i last climbed

I used Dynamica last year and Plasma this year in comps, can't honestly say they seem much different, although Dynamica is supposed to be stronger as it has DYNEEMA in it the worlds strongest fibre.

As with all answers on this forum, I'll start with another question!
What do you want it for? Competition or general use when out 4wding?
If comp, generally Plasma/Dynamica (not dynamic rope) is lighter weight, a little more on spool drum, easier to handle when running around with it... costs a bit though, but no problem if you're sponsored!
If general stuff, wire rope offers better value for money, more resistance to general wear and can withstand a little more neglect (ie. being left on winch drum wet/dirty for longer periods).
Where to get them? Don't have a clue other than your local 4wd shop... try ebay maybe?

all "plasma" is dyneema which is high molecular weight, aligned (drawn down) poly eth.
I bought amsteel for $9 per metre from the us for 11mm
cheers bru

Absolutely correct Bru, "Plasma" and Dynamica are both made out of Dyneema, it is the content of dyneema that makes the rope stronger etc and changes its characteristics.
Spectra is another one you will here bandied around, all of these products are marine ropes, used to pull sails up or whatever. Only think is they generally have a sheath over the top to stop the salt from cutting into the "plasma" as it has a very low abrasion resistance. You can buy this stuff from any saling shop as well as a 4wd shop.
there are some new products out that are much stronger than the ropes currently on the market, they have amazing breaking strains, but it is worth its weight in gold, very expensive still.

Not really the most appropriate name, but Dynamica is the brand name of a winch rope made from Dyneema fibres, which is static.
Climbing rope still stretches, thank god
