Outer Limits 4x4 Board

for the last 3 days my clutch fan has been staying engaged most of the time.
usualy it will be engaged for a minute or so when i start the car in the morning and then not until the engine is too hot. and the last few months it hasnt been hot enough for it to be used.
im wondering why its staying on now? if i rev the engine a bit it will disengage.
its getting annoying when taking off at the lights and cruising along
is there a way to adjust them? a mate was saying they need to be greased or something?

They pull apart and you can refill the silcone oil in them, you can buy it for any Toyota dealer for $5- $10 a tube, you will most likely need two or more

Some of them dont unbolt apart and are unserviceable.
Mine was doing it too, I pulled it apart and drained the oil. It was thick grey syrup. I put 2 tubes of the Toyota silicon oil in but it still does it intermittently.
Maybe I put too much in?

yeh i was reading about the oil but wasnt that for when it doesnt engage? and the car gets hot?
or is it for both ends of the scale?

They have to have juuuust the right amount in to gradually spin faster until it locks up as the temperature rises.
The bi-metal spring can lose tension too and cause it to lock up too, it plays just a big a part as the oil but once they're stuffed thats pretty much it.

The fan is usually spinning slower than the pulley it's attached to (why theres no fan noise) but when the temperature gets to a certain level the oil thickens (I think???) and makes the outer vanes spin faster with the inner vanes to increase airflow. The amount that it can spin faster is governed by the bi-metal spring you see in the middle of the clutch.

so if the spring is stuffed then that it?
whats a fan usually worth?

from what ive read, the fan should spin freely when the engine is cold?
i just went outside and tried to spin the fan and it wouldnt move at all
