I'm shopping around, looking at both 100's and Patrols. Looked at a very nice 100 series today, auto on gas.

As a long time driver of manual diesels, my concern is what D1 Low is like in the petro/auto 100's?

Do they tend to run away down steep inclines...I'm used to being able to walk down faster than the car...it's a live axle GXL (in case that makes any difference to specs). Car would be a veeeery nice base for a tourer/camping machine.
Cheers
Mike

Dunno what the reduction rate is in the auto's t-case - or whether that differs from the manuals, so was hoping someone could say if they thought they were nice n low or not... :?

Low range is 2.488:1, however 1st gear in the auto is only 2.95:1.

Coupled with 4.3:1 diffs, well you can do the sums but your brakes will be your best friend ;)

Marks have a rock box that it's a complete separated assembly with 4:1 reduction ..
