I actually have that type of relay in my Maverick, and I had to pull it out, open it up, and adjust the contacts, AND shorten all the springs, just to get it to work properly.

The failure mode was that it kept staying latched on after you turned off the headlights, due to the current running through it. The obvious solution was to shorten the springs, but this then meant that the electromagnets were not strong enough to close the contacts! So that in turn meant bending all the contacts a bit to bring them closer together.

Works perfectly since I did that. Until I got around to fixing it I had to whack the relay with a screwdriver handle to make it unlatch after a long drive with the headlights on.

So, good concept, not so impressed with the quality... but the problem is fixable with a fair bit of fiddling and testing.

Having said that mine is not actually branded "new era" but I am pretty sure it's the same thing. There's no brand sticker on it at all but it looks identical.

Hi,

I've had one of those New-Era branded relays, as per photo, running spots for over 5 years with no probs.
