gday
just wondering 33x12.5's would be too wide for my 15x7 rims, i know 8's would be better suited but cant afford them at the moment but already have the tyres.
should be ok? or expected to roll off the bead or something?

thanks, jesse

The Australian "Tyre Bible" (whatever it's called) says no - but I believe some people do it.

I think 8.5" is the minimum legal width?

The minimum width required for 35in Mickey Thompson claws is 8in so 33's on 7in rims should be fine.

Waaaay to wide mate.

Save up and buy the correct rims, they aren't that expensive.

I contemplated mounting my 31x10.5 on my 7" rims, should be on 8" I reckon.

has anyone actually ran it?
it will only be for a month or so until i can afford the wheels
i wouldnt rush, but at the moment i dont have a spare, but putting my 33's on my 7's will leave me a spare

How wide are they though?

I had 32x11.5" silverstone muddies on 15x7" rims, they were okay but you could see just looking that it was pushing it a little bit.

I think that the extra 1/2" of radius would not be enough to make up for the extra 1" of width, so I am thinking that 33x12.5's would be worse than my 32x11.5's were.

So I'd probably say you need 8" rims, sorry.

i had a 31x10.5 on a 5.5 wide rim as my spare but i never drove on it... Looked cool with the massive bulge but would probably attract sharp sticks and rocks quite well. Not legal im sure but it got me by till i got new rims.

*do as I say not as I do*

It's dodgy - save for 8's. They will crown heavily and its really hard on the shoulders - the angle gets really tight.

I run 36 12.5's on beadlocked 7's (so acutally 7.5) and they are way too pinched. however, these are not radials so it's not as much of an issue.

I also run 9.5's on 4.5" rims... don't do that either. (they are also cross plys)

Steve.

yeah mate i run 33 x 12.5s on 15 x 7 rims on my lux no probs they bag out sick but sometimes come off the bead real easy when i drop them down to like 8 - 10 psi but i'd say its fine until you save up enough for 8" rims.

oh yeah, and just drive a little bit easier on them round corners because they'll roll a fair bit.

Ive had 33" on 7".
Worked OK, didnt knock off as easy on ruts either

Didnt really notice any strange handling changes at the time.

31x10.5r15 ok on 7s or 8s
33x10.5r15 ok on 7s or 8s
33x12.5r15 should be on 10s ( though many have them fitted to 8s & some tyre makers say it's ok - the australian tyre & rim bible states 10s )

Going through this at the moment for my middy.

Keep in mind that some tyre fitters won't go against "the bible" as it may negate their public liability insurance.

I've ran 33x12.5 on 7" rims plenty and so have a few of my mates, for 10s of thousands of kays without any problems, as scott stated, they're ment to be on 8.5" rims so even 8"s are wrong

Yeah, I'm sure... Goodyear states between 7.0 - 9.0 inches rim width. I was thinking 8" would be perfect being right in the middle.
Saying that, I'm stil running the 15x7".

depends on the tyre, but most 12.5 tyres need a 8.5 minimum

The interweb. :D

When you get enough different opinions presented it's very easy to zero in on the one you WANT to be the right answer. And, if it's on the interweb, it MUST be true!
