Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I have a 84 Hilux Diesel and the headlights are about as handy as 2 candles in the wind.DULL.I have heard about replacing the original wiring with upgrade.If true how far back do you replace it.Also I have heard you put relays on hig beam and 1 on low beam.My problem is when testing the lights to find the high beam and low bem wires I have power to both terminals at the same time.One is slightly lower power than the other,any help would be greatly appreciated.I have power to both terminals on the back of the light at same time even when you flick high beam on and off.No idea??Any help like wiring diagrams or photos and info please.

The way to upgrade the wiring is to run some good fat wire from the battery to relays at the front of the car, and then from the relays to the headlights. You don't get rid of the old wiring, you use it as the trigger wiring for the relays.

You will almost certainly notice a big difference just from the wiring, in fact Toyotas imho are particularly bad in using marginal wiring for headlights... and once you've upgraded the wiring it is also worth upgrading the lamps themselves with higher wattage ones.

If they are currently sealed beams it might be an idea to upgrade them to H4 headlamps instead, so you have a choice of globes.

The reason your headlamp wiring doesn't seem to make sense at the moment is that Toyota used negative switching, there are wiring diagrams online somewhere and I am sure someone will post them up for you.

I just used some IPF H4 inserts with 6mm wiring and my headlights now are fantastic!

You just use the common wire from the stock wiring one one side of the relay coil, and the other high/low beam wire on the other side. This turns the relays on/off using your existing setup... saves any hassles from replacing the whole shamozzle.

I did this by using blade connectors plugged into the stock plugs, so it can be changed back easily if there is a problem out in the middle of nowhere.

Probaly alot like HotFourOk said. You can also get rid of the sealed beam and go to a light using a H4 bulb all just fit's into existing light bracket mate got it from walkers didn't cost over 100 bucks and then you can run whatever power bulbs and even blue vision lights whatever tickles your fancy

I'm running Tungsram +50 in mine which gives the same light as a normal H4 but not that bluish tinge crap.

Please, if you choose H4's, don't buy 'blue' or HID look globes, they are pure rubbish.
Those blue globes hurt my eyes when lancers and stuff have them... they soon cop some hurt back at them....
The output of the 'blue' globes is significantly less than a normal globe, and in wet weather they are 50 times worse again.

I think you will find a good set of reflectors, 60/55w globes and 6mm wiring will make an astounding difference compared to the old setup.
