got the grease gun out to day and put some grease in the swivel hubs. i gave it about 15 pumps. how can you tell when there had enough, shouldnt grease come out somewhere or what's the go.

It'll just keep filling up the cavity between the hub and knuckle until its full and then will start coming out but it doesn't need that much or it can hydraulicise.

if your greasing trunion bearing I would of thought 5 pumps would be enough, cv's only need to be full of grease around the ball race n spindle, the cavity it runs in does not need any as it has no moving parts.

There are also some very intelligent people on here with some good knowlage that they are willin to share, I'm not one of them but I dont mind helpin.

the reason im asking is that i was looking that the dust seal and a bit of it has broken way, there 12 months old, not shore how and they look really dry , the ball bit . and i know theres allways a clown out there some where.

As far as I know you can't tell!

MQs (and probably MKs too) have a grease nipple for the top swivel bearing but none for the bottom. If you keep pumping grease through the nipple you will empty several cartridges and still not see anything as you are trying to fill up the whole of the knuckle cavity! And you still probably won't get any grease on the lower swivel bearing which is generally the one that needs it most as that's where all the shit from the axle housing collects - mud, sand plus often oil and water from the diff when your diff seals don't work because the mating surface on the axle is grooved.

The way I grease the cone (swivel) bearings is to jack up the front axle and physically remove them one at a time by undoing the 4 bolts holding them in. Don't lose the packing shims while you are doing this.

You can test for water or oil in the axle housing by removing one of the four bolts from the lower bearing housing and seeing if anything comes out.
