Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hey guys, where did u all put your stereo head units in your MQ's??
mine is sitting in the spot made for it to the left of the intrument panel and i did an hour long trip and by the time i got home it was cutting itself out. Got told it cooked it self ( not suprising considering it was too hot to touch without getting burnt).

Looking for a place that will keep the heat away after i get it fixed, any help would be good.

thats were mine was mounted in a plastic box/panel never had any problems with it

same place mine is, never had a prob

Yep had the same problem, all i did was got an aftermarket pod from Hobart radio clinic ( i am sure you would have similar) and put some alluminium vents top and sides (prob solved)

Same place as V8Patrol's (and everyone else by the sound of things). It is mounted in a somewhat vented plastic box which is screwed into the dash. I pulled it out yesterday actually, to stick a different head unit in. There was some dodgy electronics going on behind there! But, no heat problems that I've noticed.

By the way V8Patrol, I like the switches next to your radio. I have an empty, useless pocket there instead. It is not even sloped enough to hold a few coins. I've been using the spare holes near the ignition on the right of the steering wheel instead, for switches.

And I put my UHF (xmas pressie!) between the centre console and the drivers seat. Little less visible there, but a nice spot anyway.

strange that u guys havnt had any probs.... Mine is a new pioneer MP3 unit and it cooked on chrissy eve ( it was a stinker ), think i might put some vents in as said and a dash matt to keep the direct sunlight off.

My AM radio is mounted on the roof between sun visers ( moved the rear view mirrow over to the left a bit ) and my UHF radio is mounted up against the back of my centre consol

my stereo pod is a bit different to V8Patrols, it is plastic and the same shape and colour as the dash and goes from right up against the gauge pod to the jesus bar. It also has a digital clock to the left to the stereo and I have my UHF mounted above it.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that my dash, and the stereo, is also covered with a dash mat, which helps keep the sun off it.

I saw your radio on your ceiling Screwy, and was interested in doing the same. In the end, I didn't want to drill holes in my roof, and was worried about damaging the lining. I would also have to worry about routing the wires all the way up there. There were already some holes in the centre console, and a nice gap for the radio, so it fits well there. There was even a (very bent) mic clip screwed into the back of the console, but it was always fouling on the rear seats when I rolled them forward. So I moved it around to the drivers side and all is well.

Don't you find your radio gets in the road of your rear seats, or even your passenger's feet if they are climbing about, Screwy?

the switches are for Driving lights, fog lights,reversing light,& overide for thermo fan

Thought of that possie for the uhf but decided that on deep river crossings it would be the first thing to get damaged.

My UHF isnt mounted with holes through my roof. It is on the small metal bracket under the lining that the rear view mirrow and sun visors are mounted to, so no damage. ive just run some cable tube ( wire looms stuff ) up and around the windscreen interior seals to hold it up with a cable tie on the top of the rear view mirrow bracket.

True, the prob with my UHF being down bottom is in deep river crossings, but cause its new its got all the cables with plugs on the back so is 3 seconds to take it off, though with the SOA i might not need it

To answer your question Heath, the radio sits flush against the back of the center console with the cables in a wire loom through a small hole in the carpet running completley undernieth it so its clear of passengers.

Yeah my stereo pod is the same as yours MKpatrolguy. at laest i thing from the description, cause there is no space in there for the good stereo to cool, it cooked will c how it goes with vents. I wasnt gonna mount anything ontop of it cause i figured that would cook too and would make it even harder for my stereo to stay cool.

if its gewtting too hot, you could also try installin a small 12 volt fan to blow hot air out, or cooler air in?

yeah, just thinking of putting a 12 volt fan against the instrument panel blowing towards the passenger side with a vent out the passenger side of the stereo box blowing the air direct out through the back of the stereo.
also aircon comes this friday so that should help.

Ok im installing a deck in my MK and just wondering what the wires for the front speakers are at the deck. Hoping someone knows otherwise i have to get the malti out.

screwy you may find that the fact it is poineer is your drama
1. poineers are reputed to over heat
2. poineers are reputed to have little to no dust resistance wich inturn helps them to over heat

both these problems cause them to skip more than they should. melt cd's and many other things.

mate of mine just had his fixed due to this.

best solution buy a jvc. i know they arent the blingyest of bling cd player but they work and have got the best dust a heat resistance reviews in the game. oh and they are cheap too

I think after nearly 2 years the problem might be sorted....

Alpine is the best car stereo equip. money can buy, All other brands, that make car stereo equipment, it is only a small part of thier company. Alpine only make Car stereo's so, so they make them good

yeh i sorta solved that problem about 3 years ago when i first got into patrols.... ive since built a couple of full cars.......

thanks for all help but can anyone answer my question please what are the colour wires at the deck for the front speakers .... besides the point im installing a pioneer but i have 3yrs warrenty so should be cool
