It wont be staying like this for very long though..I have been in touch with a guy called Tyson in the US who is helping me with the setup of it and hopefully we would like to have it end up something like this one..

Not bad flex for a truck

The idea is to have it ready so that we can take it up to Tuff Truck 08 ;)

Landed and registered they are around the 18K mark. At the moment there are a lot of really nice 404's in europe..all ex swiss military with under 10000 km on them..

Updates..well we had some delays getting the 416 Doka that is shipping with my truck organised, but that ios all sorted and it shoudl be here soon..not soon enough mind you ;)

So in the mean time we have been sorting out a few other bits like tyres (Michelin XMCL Hi Speed in 42x13.5R20), a winch, Corbeau seats, harness's and all this little but expensive bits..

Once it turns up the fun begins..first of the mark will be to chop around 30" off the rear of the chassis..

This will sound like a WTF?question,

But are they diesel and do they run a indirect injection motor with a inline injector pump ?

Might can the idea of a camper trailer, etc and deck out a mog. Im not in a rush these days

It depends on the model..the 404 I bought is a 2.2l petrol. This is the only petrol unimog, but if you wanted to go the diesel way then they can be converted. You can get all the adapter plates to fit a merc diesel in it.

The 406/416 and so on are a 5.7l Diesel with Bosch mechanical injection.

A lot of Unimogs are campers utilising theRadio box (or similar) on the back..personaly i dont like that idea but rather this sort of camper setup..

Dont forget..you can get a mog with Fast axles so you can comfortabley cruise at 110.

Guys..sorry I have been so slack in posting updates..but there is Movement at the fort!

Next week the first of the parts start to arrive..well actually its my street tyres which will be its daily driver tyres so on Tuesday i get to go and pick up my set of 42x13R20 Continental AC70G's. I still find it hard to imagine that there is nearly 1 Ton of weight in 5 Tyres!!

In the meantime...look what we bought ;)

Image

All the tyres in the forground are our's and one set in the background (top right).

They are coming over with an almight list of parts...Included in this order will be :

2 x 16500lb winch's
2 x 12500lb winches
6 x Corbeau Seats
20 oil filters
Transmission heat Sinks
Switchs, plugs, sockets
Air Filters
manuals
rescue Bars
Civilian Ignition conversions
A new crated Windscreen
Brake Linings

a little bit of Chrome Mercedes Bling ;)

and a Pinzgauer 710K

and thats only one container!! there are three more coming in from Europe with even more Trucks and more parts...

As for the truck build up there are a couple of changes that wil probably happen..

1) We will go with an Exo-Cage rather than an internal cage.
2) can any one say Turbo Diesel conversion? (this is only a maybe at this time and depends if we can get an apropriate donor Merc Engine.)

We may also have one of these for TT (however it looks unlikely we will get one in time IF we can secure one that is)..Its our very own Mercedes benz Unimog Field Service Unit..Any of you mobile mechanics out there ..this must be your dream truck ;)

Here is the 404 that we will be using as our Template for the Exo..probably without the Stinger bar though. The idea is for it to be removable so i dont look so obvious when i am driving on the street..

We actually import vehicles from Europe and the US to be made available for sale here in Australia. We can also source any special orders for people if they are after somethimng special.

If you look at http://www.tractivforce.com you will see some of the trucks that are available. Our advantage is that we can significantly reduce the shipping costs for anyone that wants a vehicle, which in all honesty if the biggest cost in getting one of these trucks into Australia.

The 404 weighs in in stock form at about 2600G (GVM of 4400kg).

By the time its finished it should weigh in somewhere around the 2000kg mark, but a lot depends on the construction and materials used in the tray as that is one of the heaviest parts of the Mog.

Seems this thing will be fairly nimble on the tracks with the weight loss and reduced dimensions. Got my vote for TT

LOL maybe

Yes the 404's do have a lot of chassis flex, up to around 11" when fully laden to the GVM. But IMHO mogs generally make it through obsticles with pure stubbonness ;)

In all seriousness though..I think we will be hard pressed to keep up with all the big rigs but we hope to finish, have a hell of a lot of fun doing it, put on a bit of a show for everyone and generally have something different for you guys to watch.

it should be law that everyone should own one of these

can U mount chainsaws on them?

Do you have to convert them to right hand drive?

Why would DOT allow these to be registered? Kinda unnecessary on the roads. Don't get me wrong, a brilliant truck but why can these be registered?

Why such low kms when they are obviously extremely old?
