do you mean its always on heat? is yours with or without ac? if with aircon, alot of the controls are controlled by vacuume, so check you still have good suction (are your brakes harder than normal). The heater box is on the passenger side of the engine bay, up against the firewall. Look there for busted cables.

Simple solution, how simple do you want ?

I put a tap inline with the heater hose. Turn the tap on in winter, turn it off in summer

As Andy said, the heater valve is vacuum controlled. It is also set up so the default poosition is OPEN (HEAT). So if it doesn't get vacuum, it will always let hot water into the heater matrix.

I find that when you do stop start driving (engine is shut off) - a fair bit of heat makes it into the matrix.

As mentioned, the heater valve is in the back corner of the engine bay, just follow the heater hoses back and you will find it.
