celica or supra 5 speed

Post by dustyboy »

hey all you toyotaphiles. I just picked up a smashed WB ute that has either a celica or supra box behind a 253. Can anyone help me out as to how to identify the box.

Is the gearbox casing(not the bellhousing or the extension housing, the centre part) made out of steel or alloy? If steel, its a Celica 5 speed (W50), if alloy, its a "Supra" 5 speed (W55, W57) and if its alloy with a steel sandwich plate between the gearbox and extension housing, its a W58

Yep I think we've got a winner. It's definitely a supra box  W55 or W57. As far as the Caprice front end....well

Me thinks she's past that. Chassis is twisted and broken. Shame really cos I couldn't find a spot of cancer anywhere
