660 (F6A) Clutch question - Help!

*Short version*
Does anyone know where I can get or a part number for an F6A Turbo sierra clutch - 180mm, 20.3mm 18 spline input, 3 dowels on the recessed flywheel? It's not cappucino, super carry or 1.0litre sierra :bad-words:

*long version*

I am in the process of swapping a F6A turbo into my 1.0 trayback.

The engine isn't running yet, but in the process of putting it in, I noticed that the clutch felt bad - it kinda "pops" like it has an overcentre feel.

Anyways... last time I did a 660, we put a cappuccino clutch in it - no worries. (cap motor, cap box, then cap motor/sierra box) bolted straight up

So I order an exedy cappuccino clutch. No go - caps run a 20.1mm input shaft with a 170mm clutch. I need 20.3mm input and 180mm, so the sierra f6A runs a different flywheel to a cap.

Try a 1.0 clutch I had- input shaft is right, size is right, but the flywheel design is wrong. Can't swap flywheel as the spigot bearing is different so the gearbox isn't suitable as the spigot is too short.

So I try a 1.0 super carry clutch - diameter is right, bolt pattern is right, spline is right, but the spacing is wrong - depth from cover mounting flange to clutch plate is incorrect, and it only has provision for 2 dowels not three. I can;t even bolt it up to see if it will engage.

At the moment I have to put the car together with a new throwout bearing, spigot bearing and clutch disc, and the old cover, but I think the cover is the problem as I still have the "popping" feel. I don't know how it will drive as I can't yet run the motor, but I was hoping to not have to pull the gearbox with the engine in the car.

Has anyone replaced a clutch in an F6A sierra? I know there are some in the county.

I ma on a bit of a timeline here as the car has to be running by the end of this week. I have everything else for the conversion so I'm not kidding myself.

Quick update -

All back together, with new disc and bearings - still "poppy"

I have checked and the clutch is functioning, as it goes, not dragging or anything.

Sierrajim - how did the clutch feel when you drove it the hardtop with this engine/box in it? Bear in mind the spigot bearing was non existent when I pulled it apart.

We'll see once it's running, but i'd still like a new cover in it to see if can improve feel.

PS the cover in it currently is an Aisan part so i'm assuming it's factory. It has no part numbers on it.

I drove it to one end of the street and back without shocks, then tried jumping it still with no shocks. At this point i decided it would be a good time to park it on the hoist.

That was so long ago i can't remember.

Steve is the area the throwout bearing rides on nice and smooth ? I have read on a few US sites about some very monor pitting in this area that when fixed up gives the clutch a much better feel. (from what I recall something like JB weld was used for the purpose and then sanded down)

You could be onto something there Guy as there was/is a slight "step" in bit that the input shaft slides on.

Anyway, it WAS really bad, it's all back in the car now, and it feels kinda OK. it's a bit "doughy" feeling but nothing like it was... it almost feels like a normal 1.0/1.3, so i'll run with it. At least I now know it has a spigot bearing in it ;) (the cage had gone though the clutch and somehow ended up on top of the rear main seal)

Question still stands though, if someone can get an aftermarket cover for one of these I'd be super keen.

Exedy are out of ideas.. and so am I

Is it possible to swap the flywheel to get a common off the shelf clutch down the line ..
There is a mob in Oakleigh that will make you any type of clutch you like for not to many $$ .. (if you send em in the old one they should be able to beef it up for you)

G'day Steve,

I owned the hardtop before Sierrajim, I only drove it once on road, the clutch worked fine, but I cant remember how it felt (I was probly too busy trying to keep it between the white lines)

The only information I can offer is that when I swapped the engine out of the half cut I didn't split the motor and g/b so I dont know what condition the clutch is/was in, it has/had the original clutch arm that was on the half cut and that the half cut itself was badged as a Jimny and looked like a standard NT 1.3 Hardtop (with a scoop) one strange thing I just noticed when going through a few pics that might be of use is that on the bonnet the discription of the car was "Suzuki Jimny F6A (something) turbo 600cc (something) 5 speed 2WD" ........ I find this a bit strange (about it being 2WD) as the front diff looked like a normal 1.3 NT diff and it had a hole for T/C stick, was probly just a "typo" but maybe it will help you.

As I said, I am happy with how it feels now so I'll press on with the wiring. Ah, the joy!
