double cardan

Has anyone had to make or buy a double cardan for their sierra. I think ill be needing one for both my front and rear shafts. Does anyone have any tips or advice about doing this?

You can adapt a Hilux shaft quite easliy to suit Sierra WT flanges

What is the reason you think you will need a double cardan. Not having a go at you, just wondering if the colective zook mind can help

i have a hilux double cardan on the front of mine to correct the angle a bit more, add a bit more beef and hopefully help with any wobbles... however youll find it fouls on the crossmember... so its more work than it first sounds like to do it on the front!

I have tried almost every angle on my diff since i put the hilux diffs in and there is still a vibration. I have moved the transfer case over about 40mm as well and its not as bad but still there.

maybe the driveshaft is out of balance?? you could get it checked....... for a price =/

if ur diff is still offset to ur transfer ur always goin to have vibes, also how long is ur rear shaft?

Double cardan will not fix your vibes. If your fit a double cardan joint, the other uni in the shaft must have 0 opperating angle in any plane. Since your rear output is offset, and your pinion centred, there will always be an angle in the uni, even if you point the pinion angle at the t-case output.
Also a not with double cardan joints - They acutally have less range of travel than a standard toyota uni joint. There main purpose is to assist with vibration elemination.

its rather difficult to explain but it has to do with rotational dynamics of uni joints, we had this problem alot when were were doin tail shaft extensions on new ambos for the mines , if the centre bearing was of to 1 side or not in line with the driveline u will always get vibes, doesnt matter how many tines u try to balance ur shaft.

On the Ambo's, you have the output from the transfer, which is a uni, then onto a centre bearing, then onto the rear uni. (This is from memory, so if im wrong
). Due to having a centre bearing, the front uni had an almost straight opperating angle, whilst the rear uni had a different opperating angle. This difference in angle meant that the acceleration and deceleration of the uni's as they rotated did no cancel each other out, creating a driveline vibration. Both uni's have to have the same opperating angle to avoid vibes. You can have offset drives (within reason, as a short shaft with large offset will vibrate even if the flanges are parallel) as long as the uni opperating angles are even, so they cancel out each others rotational phases.

i had huge issues with zook shafts..
went to lux shafts with no moveing of x-case.. or diff angle..
NO VIBS>.
that was iwth lux diffs and zook transfer..
i didnt have a issue go lux shaft, easy to adopt, and works well..
wlthough the only thing i can say is i had the doubble cardon on my diff not my x-case...
wrked well and as far as i know is still working
