welding stainless

i want to weld up a stainless exhaust and intercooler pipeing with a mig i was just wondering if i need a different gas or can i just put stainless wire in and use my same gas. im not after pretty welds just as long as they hold and dont rust

u can use the same gas the weld will just go a brown colour :cool:

mate its easier to NOT use the correct gas. I find that stainshield is a fair bit hotter and on thinwall its a little hard.

also if you need tube and bends etc go to midway metals in yatla. about half the cost of anywhere else.

MIG and Stainless steel comes up good, you should use stainless steel wire though.

doesn't splatter as much as mild steel thats for either wire.

Once you weld it to remove the stains buy some pickling paste. put it on wait a few minutes and wipe it off. might have to do it a couple of times, but will get rid of ugly brown stains.
