Is my factory rear locker fixable?

A while ago I turned a corner with my factory locker activated and it made a loud BANG! noise and hasn't worked properly since. I was going about 10km's an hour on gravel. It happened just as I came off a track onto the dirt road.

It will engage sometimes but wont stay engaged for more than a few inches of movement.

What is likely to be broken and is it cost effective to repair it? I will get air lockers in the future if its not.

From what I can see the vac lines are all fine.

Thanks,
Dan

you can get them welded up and machined.
reason they do it tho is either
1. using lsd oil
2. damaged actuator
3. the design from the factory is flawed and if its actually used hard the pressure the actuator holds it in with is about 6psi, an arb uses around 100psi and when its used hard and the teeth are a lil worn it pushes the gear half out then you turn and it strips.

im currently adapting mine to use an air ram because mine did this a few months back

Any ideas what nizzbits will charge for another one?

I dont think Ill get this one fixed.

Is it possible to add an air or auto locker to a factory locker diff or will I need to get another single spinner diff first?

I got a reply back from 4wd systems. They only make the autolocker for the front.

I guess this narrows my choices down to:

Replacing the factory locker with another one
Getting an air locker - Big $$$
Finding an LSD for it.

Is it true that even when shimmed up the LSD will single spin when a wheel is in the air?

I might have to start saving for those ARB's I think.

Your nuts!!

Does your LSD single spin when one of the wheels is in the air?

The LSD in the rear and air locker in the front seems like a good compromise.

Cool. Ill let you know.

Is the locker assembly limited to the diff centre and vac solonoid on the outside of the housing? Postage of the entire housing might cost a bit.

I may have found another factory locker from a bloke in QLD. :)

Im waiting to hear on a price for it.

My factory locker has done the same thing last weekend.
Can you still drive it around "without" the locker engaged or will it do more damage? I havn't really got the money at the moment to do anything about, so I'm hoping I can still go 4x4ing with it unlocked.
Also will a limited slip centre fit straight in?

It will work fine unlocked, but can't guarantee that any pieces of metal
from the busted bit won't cause more damage. Drain the fluid and replace
to see if there is any metal.

I think an LSD will go straight in.....but the axle lengths are
different to suit the LSD centre.....so...more $$$

with regards to driving round. i would atleast drain the oil. i drove mine 200k's home and after about 150k's a peice of metal bound the centre up and jammed it locked.............. if the peice of metal got stuck else where it coulda made a rather big mess

yep Chops diff.

Thats a bit of a bugger that the lsd uses different length axles.

Does the different axle length cause any troubles when chasing aftermarket lockers?

I really need to pull it apart and have a look because I have NFI how diffs go together atm.
