I have a 96 triton deisel that blows blue smoke especially when cold.
Any ideas on causes or remedies.

I have been told that perhaps the gasket in the turbo may be leaking and sucking in oil.

I know from my expearance with turbo petrol engines that the seals in a turbo can go which then leak oil into the exhaust, does it do this under load(making boost pressure). Or just at idle.

Blue smoke means it is burning oil, black smoke is excessive fuel and white smoke tends it indicate water. At a guess I would assume it would be either turbo seals or pistons rings causing your problem.
