Outer Limits 4x4 Board

G'day All,
Just investigating purchasing a brand new SR5 Hilux, Dual Cab, Turbo Diesel, and would like to hear any experiences with them, be it good or bad. Anything at all which you can share would be great.

Looking at adding a bullbar, driving lights, hard cover, plus a few other accessories.

Any help would be appreciated.

good points = power, ride and handling, comfort, fuel economy, long wheelbase and seem to climb well
bad point = very low when standard, poor vision out the back window, factory clutches can DIE VERY QUICKLY (ie 20 000kms), electrics do not like mud, alternators, starters etc seem to be a lot more vulnerable to failure compared to landcruisers driving in the same conditions

P.S. these opinions are all from my experiences only, i do not own 1 personally, i just use them at work, and have to fix them too. Work conditions are worse than most would put them through also (mining)

Cant fit snow chains on the front wheels.....no wait, thats right, not a lot of snow in Qld...

Heres my 07 hilux, and is as your thinking off - dual cab, diesel, 4x4 and auto.

She's bout 4 weeks old, the first week I had her on stockies and achieved with the first tank of fuel 9.2 litres per 100km. After fitting the lift and 33's I got 10.3 litres per 100km. I reckon that's not bad. Im also expecting it to get better as the engine runs in.



I havent had a chance to take her offroad, but have taken a stocky before I purchased her offroad and was surprised with where she would go in stock form.

If ya got any more question bout them, let me know and I will endeavour to help ya out

P.S Ive heard from other people if ya take them offroad regularly, the LSD's only last bout 50,000km, so after that ya might wanna start thinking of getting a locker or something.

Mmaaxx, exact specs so far of what I've got prices on (and more than likely the final specs) is the SR5 Hilux, Dual Cab, Turbo Diesel, Manual. Accessories are; Bullbar (the forge aluminium one), driving lights, bonnet protector, headlight protectors, weathershields, towbar, hard cover, and metallic paint (black).

Looking at possibly doing it through a novated lease, so won't be looking to do many upgrades to it. Unfortunately my offroading time has dropped down lately, , so won't see any point in getting big tyres or anything.

Only thing that annoyed me is every dealer I've spoken to has said they have a 4-5 month wait!

I waited 1 week from go to whoa. sold me car at lunchtime on a tuesday, called a dealer up straight after I sold my car, he said one just came in that morning, I told him to hold it as I wasnt fussed on the color and picked it up the following week on a thursday with a snorkel and coloour coded grill. The other stuff I did myself and yeah, mines a novate lease too!!!

I wouldnt get any factory toyota bullbar thou, they look crap and arnt as strong as the aftermarket ones. Ive got an ARB winchbar on order so should get it later this week.

Excellent forum dedicated to just the new model Hilux.

I have had mine for 80k now and have not had any problems. Yes they are a bit low but wheels and a iift help. I haven't lifted mine yet but haven't had a problem that I couldn't drive around.

Mind you if you want to rock crawl this is not your car.

the new hilux is has about 4 inches less ground clearance than the previous model (when i measured mine compared to dads) but the new turbo diesel model goes really well.

302 Cruiser, are they SR5 models??

no they arent. they both sold all that is left is a diesel auto sr but it wouldnt hert to give scott a ring see what he can do

It be an TJM Airtec snorkel.

Similar cost compared to Safari ..? I thought it's pretty beauty much more than Safari is ..
