It could be problem with the manufacturing design. When you say sealed, are you talking a Sealed Lead Acid battery (gel/paste electrolyte) or a low maintenance wet cell battery (with flush/hidden inspection caps)?

The terminals are meant to be sealed by a long mechanical seal, perhaps this seal is too short to provide effective retention of the acid.

Check your inspection caps/gas vents, are they blocked? When charging, the battery will gas and expand the contents of the case. If the breathers are blocked the gas will vent in any other means possible, via the next weak link which may be the areas around the terminals.

ok, on the side at the top of the case are there breather holes?

No battery is fully sealed, even SLA batts have valves to relieve internal pressure (it is recommended that they are charged upright for this reason)

Yep, sounds like a good plan. My advice, get them replaced with a battery you can check and maintain, I have had 'low maintenance' batts fail because one cell had an imbalance and then died due to boiled electrolyte, couldn't top it up because it would destroy the case getting to the cell.

yeah, fair enough if they have given you good service. The batts should have a breather hole or valved vent on the top or side of the case, maybe the guys from the batt shop could help you there, maybe they are blocked.

the acdelco batteries are a wet cell battery, and are sealed. the vent has a water trap, so you dont (in theory) loose any electrolyte, just gas. they are the only true maintenance free wet cell battery in australia. century and exide etc are normal batterys with the caps glued on. if you are in melbourne, and have warranty issues, i can help you out no probs.
