has this happened to any one else? only really happens when im doin some serious wheelin and with my tyre pressure low (15 - 19psi) the lugs are big and they are tearin all the way to the steel belts

there must be other blokes out there with this problem aswell

Only if you spin the crap outof them on jagged rocks.
Caterpillar tracks break that way too.

Sounds like your being doing some driving,If the lugs come of thats bad luck.My first set I riped lugs of but not to the belt.

I've got a couple of lugs on my old style BF muds that have torn down to the steel belt. Put them on the back, in case the moisture rusts the belts and delaminates the tyre, never heard of it happening though...

Never done it to a BFG but Have torn 3 lugs off a brand new swamper before, it was on its first trip.

think it might be cause i have the locker on too..... and the tyres at low pressure

Bazzles right, the jagged rocks will grab the lugs everytime and show them no mercy...

yeah but it only happened to my rear right tyre(which is now my spare)

i haven't ripped my lugs off but all my mud terrains now have bulges which makes the whole car shake, so i took them off. Does anyone know what causes the tyres to bulge like this?

we are gonna rip lugs off on the terrain we drive on ... spesh with the lockers .. all high traction rock with sharp edges

When they get badly worn sometimes a belt light move. I`ve had 2 do this before

BFGs do not have big lugs to tear off?

i took a tyre to the tyre shop and they said the bulging was caused by the age of the tyres and tread seperation. The guy also showed me how to determine when the tyres were made from a stamping on the sidewall. It turns out mine were made in 1996!!! I had baught them secondhand from a bloke at work. It is a shame that i now have 5 useless tyres 3 of which have about 80% tread.

so, can we too learn the art of finding out when a tire was made?

i just bought new set of tyres today and speeking to the bloke at tyre power epping, he reackons the new BFG's are shite & wouldnt give em away let alone sell em!
i asked him, was it because of the new softer compound, but he replied by stating that the tread has been found to be ripping off the carcase right down to the steel belts
He said that this was the case in around 6% of em. i wasnt gonna risk it, got some bajaclaws 35"s x4 for $1200 fitted & balanced .

This is for BF Goodrich tyres. I don't know about any other ones. These stampings are on the inside sidewall. the first two designate the week of the year and the last one is the last digit of the year. So for this tyre, 19 6 means the tyre was produced in the 19th week of the year 1996. At least that was how the guy at the tyre shop explained it to me. I have no idea what all the other numbers and letters mean.

im gonna go TSL SUPER SWAMPERS i recon as ive seen first hand that you can give em a floggin and they still keep comin back for more

0398 would mean 3rd week in 1998 thats how bike tires work.
