ok here it is

I got a new motor for the 60 which had a tacking noise so I thought it was just the valves that need doing any way did that. Still the same so pulled the rocker gear off and pulled the push rods out and swap it over from the old engine that was in there cause I know it was not making a noise. Got it all back to gather and the noise is still there. So now I have pulled it all apart again to put the lifters in not that it is going to make a differences

Anyone got any thought on what it may be?

Cheers

Hey Nat,

I had a 2F completely rebuilt a while back, it came back with a ticking noise on idle, I sent it back they completely restripped the motor found nothing out of the ordinary, swapped heads and everything but the noise stayed...

It still runs fine, and I still don't know what the bloody noise is....

Is your noise just at idle?

if it's a tapping i'd put money on an exaust manifold leak. get both mating surfaces skimmed (or at least checked for seal). or you can go the cheapo way and double gasket it.

if it's running extractors, i'll guarentee it's that problem. i've never found a set of 2f extractors to seal properly.

most of the ones i see have warped around cylinder 6, making the last stud/bolt a pain to get in.

if it's more of a knocking sound, it may be the cam/oil pump gear. these wear quite often and make a terrible noise, but if you thought it was lifters/valves, it'll be exaust manifold leak.

Agree extractors are a pain to seal and give an annoying ticking sound rather than a mechanical tapping sound worth a check.
