they are pretty thirsty , running gear should be fine , its a big engine and should have plenty of km's to go before a rebuild (if its been regularly serviced ) .

not a power house but its a 4x4 not a street car and they pull pretty good compared to the 4.2 petrols and diesels . but like any engine there are mods you can do to improve their proformance .

the gu's are hard to see over the bonnet for short people ,
diesel would be better for sand work but dearer to buy
you could pick up a diesel gq for $14000 more luggage room in the back etc just not a comfy as the gu .

and gas coversions can become a headache unless you find a good gas tuner (anyone no a goodone here in Canberra :D ) (i want a diesel :D )

good luck anyways
cheers Jai

will he take any less than 14k?
mine was 15.5k with 100k less on the clock and a few extras like bullbar, lights, HD steps, 2" etc...
what spec is it? do you have any pics or any more details?

how much less? if he would take say 12.5k then id say yeh grab it.
from what you have described it seems ok.
im just thinking back to when i got mine and how i think i should have waited for a 4.2 to come around... but the 4.5 is more than enough for me so im still happy
it all comes down to what you want for it exactly? if its purely for weekend trips and DD duties then the 4.5 should be fine. but if you want to start doing extended trips and more serious modding when the bug bites (and yes it will  ) then maybe a 4.2 would be worth waiting for

at 270Thou it should have at least another 110-130 thou in it before needing attention.
Not real fast, but will still do 110 on the hiway basically no matter what you hook it up. (Car and trailer topped 7 tonnes on the way back from Cairns to melbourne, pulled it easily just drank more juice.. even in 35+ temps it did not look like overheating)

For beach work it can get rather thirsty (very heavily laden on dry sand I managed to use something like 67 liters per 100ks).

I sadly miss my gu and will be buying another ASAP most likey a 4500 petrol .. or a 4800 auto.

patrol
