Which is the best to get?
Need to be able to push from 1st all the way to reverse without any hinderance. Or need to be able to modify it so I can do that.
I want a nice bling one like a B & M Quicksilver and it needs to suit a 4 speed. This one will be for my hilux.
Allready have a mega shifter we got free for our buggy. Don't know yet if we can mod it to do anway with the racheting crap it has atm.

Easy to mod the gates I have done as you wish and can slam from 1st to rev if needed .....
I got it through OPW ....but there's plenty of other places to get it .......there are some good finds within this shite as with everything on ebay

Try
http://www.rocketindustries.com.au/ importers for a lot of this stuff not all are rachet type but you will have to file the gate for what you want to do

Assuming its for a buggy, the ratchet shifters can take a bit to find the right gear.

For some transmission you can actually get revers patern Valve bodies ie: istead og goin PRND21 it goes PRN12D
But need the shifter to match
Most standard shifters have a 'cam' with a ratchet wich falls in to lock. A verticat face stops it so the ratchet must be lifted, a ramped face puishes the ratchet back allowing for no lock out
Simply grind all vertical faces to ramps (But not the Park gate)

If he wants fully manualised, also it makes it a pain for quick hi-lo change, as in belting along in high top and wanting high range, have to go back to first to get to neutral

No sure on the reasoning but if you go full manual valve body you loose alot of compression braking

Auto in Hilux will be standard and I want to be able to slam reverse if it gets front end light when climbing.
Auto in the buggy will be full manaul and need to be able to slam reverse for the same reason.
Plus I just hate ratchet

Couple of quick questions
A)Why don't you just play with the gates with a normal shifter? I haven't been the wrapped in the shift feel of the B&M's I have played with
B) Most stock shifters permit you to hit N without detenting, theres no reason why you can't modify the gate to allow DNR without a detent, but I wouldnt recommend it.
My 2C - I've driven auto offroad for 9 years -
I have modified a couple of shifters to require a detent to get out of D at all. My reasoning? if I am climbing in, say, 2nd, and want more speed, I can slap the shifter and get all the way to D without thinking about it, but I can't, ever, accidently pull N, (or fly through to R) which I think could be disastrous. Likewise, I set up N so I can flick to D or R without detent, making neutral drops easy.
I think if you have any stall speed in the converter at all, just shutting the throttle should make the car drop back. if you need more control, you will still have time to detent and pull R pretty quick.
Ratchet shifters seem pretty dumb offroad to me - they look like a waste of time when maneuvering.

Who's running with a reverse pattern shift in their auto?
Is it just a matter of having the vavle body changed?

Had a plan to get get rev patern on my th700 , so i used a ratchet shifter
that could accomadate either , Just using the things is a pain in the A .
I think revsed patern with a lock out on park and a button or scisor grip
to run straight thru to drive , so shift R n 1 with no hinderance and
pull the button what ever to hit drive ( when you need some wheel speed to drive out of end overs ect )
This one the one i had and wouldn't buy agian ,

1st, 2nd, N and R will be the main used gears, 1st and R being the most.
I DON'T want ratchet type shifter unless I can modify it and remove the ratch so to speak.

Hurst Lightening Rod shifter
http://members.tripod.com/~jestepp/shifter.html
Don't if it will do what you want cause I couldn't be farked reading it
EDIT: Just noticed it has an OD so it wont work
But if it didnt and you had reverse valve body it would do the trick

there are also some b and m shifters that are not rachet and to get them out of park all you have to do it push on the gear lever and pull it back to get it out of park, most of them are a pain in the neck but the main advantage being they have a selector cable and easy to setup.

I run a reverse pattern in my hq tonner. B&M shifter. Best thing I ever did for that car. No more slamming it into neutral a 6500.
The bracket came with the shifter. You can install the forward shifting bracket ....or the reverse one. They are basically the same but one is inverted, if you know what I mean.
Yeah... those hurst lightning rods would be the go, sticks all over the place

Twin stick transfer, rear disconnect.....he with most sticks wins
Can you imagine somebody trying to pinch it
Think one of aftermarket places used to make one similar to the Hurst
Basically one stick for each gear and nuetral, reverse and park
Pull which ever stick you want and the one that is currently engaged pops out

just use a generic standard shifter out of a comodore or something. Most of the aftermarket ones are rachet type and a lot have special features to make it hard to shift into reverse. Bling is over rated.

Only people that don't have bling say its over rated

I have this one;
with the gates filed out so it can be slammed from D to R and back. I only ever use those two gears.
