Anyone know if Aus delivered Hilux ever came on 7.50R16 tyres as standard.. ??

And if so.. what years..

Looking to stick some on my 02 Lux.. but am looking to keep this vehicle all legit and legal (last Rangie was no where near it  )

No, 205r16 was the standard fitment.

I think the 1st gen hilux which ran crossply dunlop RTM's in 6.50 16 which is the equivalent to the 205r16.

I have run 7.50's and 235 85 16's on hiluxes without issue, but do understand your concern for legality. Maybe speak to an engineer? Most engineers would look favourably at such a "mild" request, especially as it would be on the stock rim.

So are 205R16's the only size fitted.. what about SR5's etc..

As far as legal is concerned.. 15mm increase is allowed in height.. so not even 1 inch  ...

And I dont think I can be bothered with engineers to be honest..

Maybe just run a more aggressive 205 or similar size and get some lockers

depending on year, you might have 15X7 and 31 10.5 on your placard (or 255 75 15 or similar)

But that won't give you much more rolling radius than you have now, and for it to be legal, it would have to be on YOUR placard or else you still need an engineers cert.

If you can't be bothered with an engineer that's up to you, but at least it would answer your question, with some research and a fee you might be able have what you want legally. If you don't ask you'll never know.

The performance increase between a 205 and a 7.50 is very significant offroad. I even preferred mine on road with the taller tyre as it stretched the lower gears out a bit more.

If you are going to stay with a 205 watch the speed and load rating, it will have to match the placard, this might be difficult with a more aggressive tyre.

79-83 rn36 rn46 ln46 7.00r16 was standard fitment, I have owned or wrecked out about 6 of these, 7.50r16 can be legally fitted, the next series onwards had 205r16's, so technically 31 10.5 r 15's can only be fitted on early ones if you follow the guidelines from DOT and wheel and tyre fitment guide, but no-one here in qld cares as is is very close, but 32's and up they just love pinging all day long, the tyre placard fitted from delivery is really the guide they go by or secondly the user manual

Thanks for that Bribiesurf - I was going from memory it was 6.50 - my bad

landy_man - armed with that information (on the 700.16 thing) a phone call to an engineer should clear it up - some correlation of part numbers and bearing sizes on what you have now vs a first gen hilux and you should be away. Your bigger brakes etc should make it an easy thing.
