Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Im just wondering what the moximum safe temp in Farenheiht is for the good old TB42.
Mine has an autometre guage in it and the guy I bought it from said it generally sits around 150 if it gets to 180 shut it down and panic.
Its playing up at the moment and gets up around 180 every now and then. Is that safe or not? Im still trying to find out if the head is cracked or not , have to get a CO2 test done next week.
Any ideas?

212. I didnt think the bastard was getting that hot. At 165F i could stick my finger in the water and it was hot but not burning.
Looks like I still have a bit of a way I can push it then.

i dont know if 100c is what it should be run at, i was just guessing. wait till someone tells you for certain first.
i just guessed it was around the 90-100c mark

180° F is only 82° C, so you are not even close to boiling temp yet. Your coolant will raise the boiling temp beyond 212° F or 100° C anyway.
The temperature at which the thermostat is designed to open is called its rating and is usually stamped on the body. The 180° F thermostat begins to open at 180° F and is fully open at 200° F. Different engines use different temperature calibrated thermostats. In addition to maintaining the proper operating temperature, the thermostat also controls the speed of the coolant through the engine. If the coolant moves too fast, it will not pick up as much heat as if it were moving more slowly.
