2nd that ask 3 people that work for qld transport the same ? and you'll get 3 different answers 99% of the time

Mate, check out what other people have done, and if you have questions, ask them. Lurking around, and having a good sticky-beak will teach you heaps. Like Bogged is likely to tell you to search, but has great practical knowledge, and GWagenSteve is very helpful and knowledgeable, and Awill can weld like a mad thing, and stuff.

Anyway, I've seen this http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/phpBB2/vi ... c&start=30 and thought maybe that's what you want to do? Go back and forward through his pages, it's pretty cool.

And there are other build-up threads in the members section too. Have a look around. Don't just ask a question to everyone that might already have been answered 80 hundred times.

Cheers.

well regardless of what an engineer says I thought that in the end it comes down to what QLD transport or whatever they are called say is and isn't legal. From all the tales of woe on this forum, QLD is one of the hardest places to get even mildly modded stuff legal

there 3 "set's" of rules (DOT, Engineer's and Cops) none of them are the same it the only way to be legal is to leave the car alone and even then you get into trouble with 1 of the above. The left hand does not talk to the right.

Go into the DOT, don't give them ya info (rego, number, etc) and talk to them, then go and see and engieer/shop and talk to them and then go from there.

Either way your always gonna get it wrong by someones rules.

the police are the ones you really need to worry about as long as you keep it resonable and mod plated they generally leave you alone

the engineer we use is pretty good dad had a few issues with height and cops but he helped sort it out :D

its called all vehicle modifications no# is 0412416296 he’s in deception bay so not to far from noosa

I have a gu ute in Vic, and just been enginered with 3" suspension and 2"body lift. Don't know about rules in Qld, but you think they would be similar

You'd think that, but no. 3" spring would be considered too high in QLD as the bump stop distance is greater than 1/3 of the original. Body lift can be approved through DOT, with application before it is done, followed by an inspection after install.

yeah a 2 inch suspension lift is allowed and a 2 inch body lift is allowed as long as all the rules are followed and an overall tyre diameter increase of 25mm (im pretty sure they are the measurements)

Not always correct in queensland i can buy a 5 inch spring lift from tjm doesnt mean its legal, if you pay attention you'll notice alot of they're products are for offroad use only.

You can only reduce your bump stop clearance by a maximum of 1/3.

So if you origonally have 6 inches between your axle and your bumpstop (or whatever hits the bumpstop) you can only reduce that to 4" (thus you can lift your car by 2")You cannot modify your bumpstops in any way.

Get a tape-measure, measure the distance between your bumpstop and whatever strikes it at full compression, divide by 3, and you have your maximum legal lift.

You can fit a maximum 2" body lift, but you need prior approval from QLD transport, and then an inspection once it has been completed.

You can increase your tyre diametre by a maximum of 15mm, or reduce it by a maximum of 26mm.

I dont know why everyone says qld transport doesnt know what they are talking about. If you ring ANY QLD transport office they will give you those facts, or give you the modifications booklet which lists all those facts.

The only time things become ambiguous, is when you ask them to estimate as to what the 1/3 bmpstop means to a patrol, or cruiser, or barina, some might estimate it to be 2", others may estimate it to be 1".

As for the police, QLD transport will always override the police when it comes to modifications. If the cops say its illegal, and qld transport say its legal, then its legal.

That may be correct as it is in every state, but, the police can still defect youre vehicle if they believe that the vehicle does not meet ADRs and or is illegaly modified. You will still have to get the defect cleared(in VIC anyway) or your registration will be suspended.

same in qld, but if you are not an asshat about it when the cop is there, and you tell him it complies, then hes unlikely to defect it.

If he still defects it, write a letter to the police minister, or go and see your local member.

Once you have been cleared through the QLD transport pit, it would be a brave police officer who would defect you again, that would i beliecve be grounds for you to seek damages (time off work to go to qld transport again etc).

I got canaried about 18 month ago by a copper doin RBT's, not for the 37's but for no flairs and no front side rear mud gaurd, had mod plates for chassis cut, turbo, LR tanks, body lift, and some others I think. He didnt pic 7" coils, drop arms , A frame or no muffler, just the road worthy things. He checked lights ect, I did have 3" of tyre protruding though. He also said they would check the rest when I presented it down the local Qld Transport office.
