I cant tell you where but I can tell you where not to and thats near your centre console.
Went away last weekend with some mates (and my dog for the first time) and on almost every obstical needing lockers Id get stuck halfway up only to realise the bloody dog was standing next to me with her foot on the compressor switch turning the lot off.
And as she wanted to have more fun I drove about 50m out of car lovers before realising she'd turn the lot on.
Im now looking for a new location as well and im considering custom holes towards the top of the dash so they are in my line of sight when needed.

I learnt the same lesson. At the time it was just a compressor switch but dog managed to keep switching it on. They're now mounted in blanks on dash but i want to mount them higher, maybe a dash pod or something?? I need my heater/aircon vents living in Vic.

this is where i fitted my arb compressor in my series 1 GQ TD42 wagon i just relocated the vacuum tank under the fuel filter bracket, you just need 2 bolts with matching nuts and just shorten one of the vacuum lines and it fits like factory even the holes are there in guard to bolt the tank to, then you will have room next to it to mount arb compressor, in series 2 it is different and you have more room there and dont have to move anything.

Not sure where to mount them in a Hilux but don't mount all 3 switches too close to each other as you will switch the wrong ones when bouncing around on an obstacle

If you can I would fit the switches high in the dash near the steering wheel so you can easily hit the magic blue traction switches easily when needed.

I know a few cop guys have modded their horn button to turn the front locker on and off, would be an easy mod to do with a seperate 2 way switch, you would just have to make sure that you switched it over when you hit the blacktop again and vice versa....
As stated, mount the compressor switch somewhere different too your locker switches.

In my 2003 Lux I've got them mounted in the switch console area on the dash to the lower right of the steering wheel. When engagin or disengaging I just drop my hand a bit off the wheel and they're right there.
As an added benefit in that position I can change gears with my left hand while disengaging the locker with my right and confuse the hell out of any ricers next to me with the BOV sound in between quick gear changes
