Can you give us tad more detail?

- Like some engine spec if possible?
- How old an engine are we talking?
- Mechanical or electronic diesel injection?
- What gearbox they mated to, same as our Sierras?
- I assume they are cast Iron, how much one weigh approximatly?

I'll probably get flamed for being lazy, and not researching this myself. However I think its fair, and I wouldn't say I'm interested in anything untill I know a bit more specifically about these engines. I wasn't aware of Diesel SJs to be honest, I did however know of Diesel SEs, SVs etc.

Now that would be interesting. All I can find on google is the engine is a Peugot diesel, codename XUD9TE and apparently produces 92bhp stock.

yup this is the engine available in sierras.

depending on year model they came non and also direct injection both producing around the same power. the engine mounts are different to aus sierras but being a frontcut you simply lop the mounts off the chassis and re-weld them onto yours, you will need to do this with the gearbox mount also as the box is different to a sierra 5 speed.

cheers mark

All, I am for waiting some legal information from a collegue, which is due soon. The plan thus far is to import 5 front cuts and an off the carpark floor 1.9TDi Suzuki Samurai. Thats all we can squeeze into an ISO container. As for the prices, I will let people know via this thread, but im afraid if theres no interest the whole thing, its gonna have to be canned. I'll give it a while after posting prices, and if its viable, we will go ahead. The main reason for this venture is, that there are sooo many people wanting to put diesels in their zooks, that I thought I would do something about it.

And thanks everyone for answering all the questions asked after my post.. Ive been busy at work :(

No-ones going to give you any interest until you give some pricing ideas. I'd also be keen, but again, need a price.

Need to know a ball park price, what diffs do they run and are the T-case ratios the same, and what rev range do they work in.
Ive thought about VW golf diesels before, but the cost to buy and fit is much greater than say a Vit' motor. Which you could buy a lot of petrol with. I would need to change diffs or I would not have any road speed.

Given this will be a model not available in Australia it should be able to be imported.

With 31's just run a S1 transfer rather then a S3 and still have heaps down low for crawling. Main concern would be weight and the balance of the vehicle.

Now for the OUCH

Well, Ive finally recieved my fax, and unfortunately a little peeved. Okay, the price has come in for the front cuts, and going off my original plan, the price for each front cut alone would be $EUR1750($AUD2940) If this included shipping, it would be acceptable, but thats not including shipping the ISO and finally customs.Customs have said they will be charging me 10% on arrivbal to AUS, which makes it a very expensive venture. I guess i didnt expect it to be cheap, but i would rather not pay just shy of 30k to my door. The engines range from 18000k to 97000k and are from 1998-2001 model LHD....Thoughts?

This is a similar car i am looking at i thought they looked fairly nice

Where did you get info on that zook? or find that pic? What country is that zook located? That is exactly the same zook I'm trying to locate to import to the US or atleast parts of it. It has the dash and bumpers i'm trying to find. I haven't been able to locate that dash in LHD configuration till Now??

I'm keen but obviously not at $3500 just for cut. By the time transport customs etc is added it'll be closer to $5000.
How about just bringing in motors and gearboxes.? We can find suitable ancillaries here (radiators etc).
What diff ratios do the diesels use? Will I have to change diff ratios as well?

also do the engines meet emissions etc here? Because they aren't already available in a Sierra here without the right emissions papers you'd most likely be up for an emissions test which is around $2500-3000 an engine. Would definetly pay to find out all those sort of details as well.

Having said that the couple of Samurais with the 1.9 TD VW engine I have passengered in didn't particularly inspire me to do the conversion. For slow rock crawling stuff they were alright but seemed to be slow to respond to the throttle and for doing stuff in the sand etc where you need high revs and quick response they weren't much chop

Diesel swaps don't have the same emission issues that petrol engines have. I haven't driven the Pug 1.9 engine but I have driven the Mazda RF 2.0 (with similar output depending on the year) in the GV with an auto and it went surprisingly well. There is room for tweaking too. The 1.9 engine was used in the Peugeot 306 and 405 as well as overseas Vits.

Mate, I have a collegue overseas that found the cuts. The zook, I found on an Argentinian page, I'll try and remember the pages and send them to you

ok, i am just gonna answer some of the questions, so sorry for the format of this post. Firstly, there are vits sitting in the yard aswell, and i'll post pics of them soon. The diesel engines dont have to meet the same emissions as the 1.3 ULP engines, I am trying to confirm cheaper prices as we speak, and also exploring the import brokers aswell, to get it cheaper, I have information that a whole swag of the same vehicles were imported into the U.S for general sale.

Im gonna just put any pics i can find on my web page, and advise of the file names here. so just check from time to time, as this is something i am pursuing deeply :) lol i cant figure out how to embed on on these pages, but if anyone has any questions of me and where my info is, just buzz me.

a diesel engine has alot better emissions than a petrol motor anyway so you will have no probs there, comin from europe they have alot firmer rules on emissions than we would here,as for power turbo diesel would have a nice power output for a sierra or any small 4x4.

this guy is tryin to help people out by gettin a td for there sierra, seems like everyones just baggin him,get a life to some of u people,if u dont want one of these motors piss off

seriously. talk to some of the brokers on skylineaustralia.com and nissansilvia.com they take orders off websites like yahooauctions.co.jp and bring it back all in one big container.

Going by the pics, this setup won't be easy to make fit RHD.

Looks like a slanted motor, like the old Valiants. Quite a cluttered engine bay, I like my engine bay allot neater than that.

Thanks for offering us bakesy, but I think I'll personally pass for a few reasons. Good luck if you go ahead with it, hope it works out for you.
