ifs to sas

Hi guys, Im currently thinking of doin a SAS swap on my ifs ute, id like to find out if anyone out there has done such a conversion and how they find it?

Are you thinking of leaves or coils?? And what is your main reason for the conversion?
I did a leaf SAS on my old Surf. F'n awesome off road, stiffer and harsher on road.
If you want a comfort ride I would look at coils (thats what I would do if I didi it again).
Apart from the conversion which turned out to be a bout a 4" spring lift in the end, I had to lift the rear also. Then I had rear tail shaft vibes. Installed a double cardin joint shaft. Mostly fixed but not 100%. Also had to pack the gear box down 1".
But if you want off road performance, go the SAS. I never could stop smiling. All the hard work was done at Overkill and I had his engineer pass the work.

Do a coil sprung SAS if possible, it will work better on and off road.
What are you converting?

Yeah i was thinking of a leaf conversion, ive heard of heaps of people complaining about breaking steering components and cracking chassies and etc, but im sure some strenthining would be requiered to prevent that.
very excited cant wait to do it just curious on how every one else finds it so far so good :)

Coils are the way to go
. Cheezy Racing did mine and it's grouse.
The chassis at the steering box will need to be strengthened to stop cracks.
Makes the Hilux come alive offroad and on road is smooth as (mine runs soft springs so I get a bit of body roll)

So does he use a Bundy front ??
How long did it take ??
Was/Is it engineered ??

Yes, or Hilux doesnt really matter, depending on the setup bundy has the advantage of having arm and panhard rod brackets already on.

around 6k from memory, but that was for a 5link, & other custom bits.
However i dont think Cheezy is doing SAS anymore, but best to contact the man himself.

Well done DJ your spot on
Give Cheezy a buzz and talk to the man himself.
He can do it all but he will try and talk you into using either 80series or GQ diffs as they work out to be cheaper & more reliable in the long run.
I ended up running the hilux front diff with hub spacers, longfield CV's & axles & heat treated ring/pinion and this put the cost up heaps (I broke the CV's in 2 outings before going to Haultecs and they have been in for years now).
A few of Cheezy's latest SAS'd 4bys are running stock 80 series diffs with lockers and they are awesome offroad (wide too).
He can engineer it all too.
