LJ70 1KZ axle ratio issues 4.88 or 4.11

Post by gotoy »

Installed a 1KZ-te into my LJ70, or bundy as they are known.

The 1KZ is very good and a vast improvement over the 2LT.

Now I have an issue with axle ratios. The original ratios are 4.88, for the 2LT engine. The 1KZ came with axle ratios of 4.11, which I have. Running 31" tyres on the road at 100kmph, by the clocks, I am actually only doing 90kmph by gps. I use 35" XT's offroad, not tested yet.

So what ratio should I go for?
Keep the original 4.88 in?
Install the 4.11?
Or go for 4.56?
I would prefer a ratio giving the highest torque offroad.
Or....are my 31" tyres just too small??

31" are out of the box .. no option .. will be great to run 37" plus tires.

A buddy swap one 1KZ-T in his hi lux and need to drop to 4.10 and running 35" fawk happy !

So you are suggesting 4.11.

He can run 38" under the rig with the 4.11 with out problems ..

This it's the victim .. I thought if you want it for rocks or plan go really big keep the 4.88 but actually you don't really need 'em.

With 4.88 and 35" you can go over 100km/h .. for this reason my mate swap 4.88 for 4.11.

If you go for the 4.1's, would you be interested in selling me your 4.8's (assuming they are in good condition)?

Peter.

 I still dunno if 4.11 or 4.88 would be best.
