just saw on ebay that sombody in nsw has 4 j20a vitara motors for sale!! makes me wish i could pick one up ( cj!! )

How well does the 2 litre fit in sierra's?

i have no idea but a 97Kw factory engine in a sierra!! mmmmmm

Just a question. Are the 2.0 litres a bored/stroked G16? And how reliable are they? i.e. any common issues with 'em?

they are a different motor all together, twincam, 16valve, running individual coil packs on the the rocker cover. I had the o2 sensor go & the rear main seal went at 95,000 after a good soaking in filth. I recently had an issue with the TPS & I think that was related to dirty fuel, as I cant get it to re error on the check engine light

WRXZook there is an insane amount of work been put into your zook there, looks awsome!!! I hope ppl realise this other than just looking and thinking "yeah i can put a 2 litre in"....

spot on. they are tough as hell also, massive webbing inside block, chain driven oil pump, 80mm throttle body... sweet as engine.

they do get tight on the drivers side but are a neat fit.

just out of curiosity how much were they going for on e-bay?

The 2.0 is a J20A which is a stroked version of the J18A (1.8) in the Baleno. It has also been offered as a J23A (2.3) in the US in the Aerio.

The one thing that is the same on these motors is the bellhousing bolt pattern. They are the same as a G16, meaning you could bolt one up to a standard gearbox with an adaptor plate. Don't ask me how long the box would last though.

One of my adaptor plates is being used in this application.

The crankshaft bolt pattern is different though, so the flywheel needs mods. The engine mounts are also different.

There is a complete kit available from the states to fit a J20.

So what your saying is a J20A will bolt to a G16B Vitara 4spd Auto??

Does that apply the 1.8 dohc motor too??

You will need to deal with the flex plate as it is slightly different due to the different crank bolt pattern and the 1.6 runs a slightly different stall torque ratio.

So how can it be done??

I don't believe and engine fan can be made to fit. Unless you are running a rear mount radiator (AU falcon or something else huge) I think that is a major issue. Pusher/thermo fans, IMHO do not cool well enough for an offroad car.

Could this be a mod for the G16B? with bigger injectors etc

Ive emailed Brent at Trialtough a few times about the adaptor kit for the 2L and it seems not that much different to the 1.6 work.

Anyone know how you might get around the 1.6 Auto different stall torque ratio's. If I go down this track Id like to not have to buy another Auto Box as they are very expensive!

I read up on putting a J23 into a sierra and found a few swifts with them and they had to grind something on the input shaft for some reason. But other than that fitted straight up to the swift gearbox, which I assume means the same for sierra.

Wouldn't hang my hat on that - Swifts are transverse and run very different clutches, flywheels etc to sierra/vitara. I believe the J20A is a bolt in to a Vitara gearbox.

Remydog - I would have though the 1.6 have a higher stall which could be a help in a bigger tyred car.

The G16B has a Stall Torque Ratio of 2.4 and the J20A has a Stall Torque Ratio of 2.0

So it sounds like that would be a good plus!

So CJ it would just mean that the Converter would hook up at a few higher Revs?

Well a swift motor bolts straight up to a sierra gearbox so would a J23 motor not bolt up to a sierra gearbox the same as it would a swift box?
