Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I have been servicing my recently aquired ute and went to change the transfer box oil, the book said to use ATF.. and sure enough it looked like (old) ATF when I drained it. So run of the mill ATF is ok to use in the box ? Seemed a bit odd to me, why ATF ?
I also used Castrol LSD in the slippery rear diff, does this run ok ?

I had one bit of feedback locally that said to use LSD oil in the transfer box, any comments on that one pls ?

In the nissan manual it recomends a 75w/80 APLI GL-4 oil for the transfer case.

that makes a lot more sense, handbook is not much chop.. must get a manual somehow..
Used BP Multitrax in box and transfer, BP book said that was ok and its GL5
