G'day all,

Seen afew Rangie's for sale of late around 89 - 90 models that are claiming to have 3.9L V8's. But most of the motors intake manifold don't have the 3.9 stamped in them.

Got me to wondering about my early 89 model. I believe it was a 3.5 as it doesn't have the 3.9 stamped on it. Is there any other way to check?

Mine has a ZF Auto and a LT230, But I assume It was suppose to have a Borg warner TC originally??

G`day for 89/90 RR ( or any ) the vin and engine prefix tell .

Vin FA is 89 3.5 and GA ( can be 89 build ) is 3.9 .

FA has exposed hinges ( frt doors ) GA has hdden hinges .

Both are viscos std also FA 88 build is viscos .

The years give an idea the Vin tells what it is/was factory .

If you put your engine # prefix up , i`ll tell you what it is .

With a 3.9 the suffix will tell if its a !0 or 14 bolt block as in what head gaskets .

Cheers

Quick check is that 3.9 has a MAF, and 3.5 has a flapper.
3.9 will have VSS on LH chassis rail, with short little speedo cable going to it.
3.9 will have a stepper motor at the RH rear of the plenum.(black cylinder with 4 wires coming from it)

EA is 88 and should have LT230 .

Interior will have thick wood door tops ( if high line/vogue type ) .

89 FA has thin wood door trim .

19D is 9.35:1 comp ratio from carb car

88 should have 8.13:1

Not original engine .
