Well my brother in laws transfer shifter jammed and wouldnt move out of 4WD so he pulled it out and found this spring in there that we think fell out of place and caused it to jam.
My lux doesnt have one and Ive never seen one before. Whats it suposed to do? take out the slop from the shifter?
Also does anyone know how to stop a hilux transfer case from getting water and dirt and shit from getting in around the shifter boot?
Both his and mine are coroded as hell in there from crap getting in around the boot (not to mention all the junk that must be getting into the transfer case oil).

Looks like a stick from a late model Chain drive case? The spring is there to stop the stick from vibrating when you havent got your hand on it basicaly. There is not a lot you can do about the rubber boot on the shifter as you cant totaly seal it because this is where the transfer case breaths as well.

Its deffinatly not a chain driven case.
Its on a solid axle dual cab, age is about a 93 model I think.
I dont think the gearbox/transfer has had any work done on it from new either.
So should I tell him to not worry about putting it back in?
Paul.

Put some thick tacky grease under the boot. It did the trick for mine. Every time I changed the oil it had water in it but it is fine now. :D
