removing rear discs and intercooler question

Firstly could some one tell me how you get the rear disc off a GU patrol?
Secondly how does the intercooler work?
and does it have coolant or oil running through it or is it just outside air cooling air channeled through it before going to engine, I guess via those large diameter black hoses!

Disks no idea
Intercooler, yes it is simlpy air to air. That is, charged (or presurised) air from the turbo is beinf forced throught he radiator bit which as outside air running over it as you drive befire it goes into the intake manifold. Very simple.

Rear disks are easy to remove. Take wheel off. Push piston back into caliper. Undo the two bolts holding the caliper on. Sit caliper on the bump stop. If disc dosent now almost fall off. Give it a wack with a rubber mallet.
Intercooler. Its abit like a radiator for the intake air after its been thru the turbo and made hot. There a similar design inside to a normal radiator. So they use the airflow thru the fins to cool this intake air.

Thanks for the information Benhil and Turps. The reason I asked about the intercoller was because had some very slight black oil seepage near a joint of the large rubber hose where it meets the alloy pipe under the manifold, I tightened the clamp and it hasnt reappeared after twoo hundred k's, I am only assuming that the seepage came from there, should that ever happen, is there anyway oil mist etc can enter that air circuit?

I dont have an Intercooller yet. But have heard that it is quite common for there to be an oil residue in the intercooler.
Cant remember where it comes from though.

Thanks Turps, I think it is just a mist that turns into a black film if allowed to escape through a seal dut to a slightly loose clamp, my laymans view is that perhaps it is from lubrication to do with the turbo, really I am just guessing.

Yep sounds about right. Oil is a shit thing. A small amount of the stuff seems to be able to spread along way.

It is oil from the engine breather. A diesel puts quite a bit of oil out the breather and through the intake which is why quite a few people will remove the engine breather and use a catch can instead. Also if you roll this give the engine oil a clean path to get into the intake, which can cause the engine to 'run away' and not be able to be turned off. Not ideal obviously!
