33's under and IFS Lux.......

What d I need to do it....that is fit 32's or 33's under my IFS dual cab.
I figure a 2" body lift, and I already have 2" in the springs.
Also, what wheel offset/type. I'm thinking 16's, 285/75/16.
Are there crusier wheels in 16x7/8 that will do me.
I know, I know IFS sucks, and if you've got to tell me about it well fair enough
, but the help would be appreciated.
thanks guys.....

32's fit under an IFS with 2 inch body with no dramas, so 33's should be fine aswell!
However you are going larger than the manufactures reconmendations which may also interfere with your insurance!
Cruiser Off-set will be fine!

On IFS with no suspension mods you need 3" body lift to fit 33`s. 32`s rub a bit with just a 2" body lift.

to get it wider fit solid axle rims, and i agree with guts.

I have 32s on 8 inch rims with a 40mm body lift and about an inch or so in susp lift.
No rubbage at all exept when turning at full lock the tyres touch the rubber mudflap.
Im thinking of chucking on some 33s and maybe dropping the susp lift (cause its dodgey home made ext shackles and the local cops are getting a bit picky). I think they will fit with a bit of bashing or cuting of the inner guards
.
When I eventually get round to it the lux will be getting a SAS and 35s or 37s
.

mate i got exactly the same prob as ou. i got 2'' body and 1 1/4'' suspension in the front and it still doesnt look like i cant fit 33's. i got 31 x 12.5 xterrains atm and they just barely miss the mudflap/ guard area.

you`ll be able to fit 32`s now.with 33`s they will scrub on your front bumper if you have one.

on my '91 IFS truck, i have 32x11.5 BFG muds on 15x8 3" backspace wheels and they only rub on the plastic inner fender lining at full lock and suspension compression at the same time. my rear springs are actually sagging quite a bit, still no rubbage issues.

To fit 33's with a 2" body lift without cranking the torsion bars you'll need to pound the fender seam flat for about 6-8" from the bottom and you'll also need to remove and/or replace the front mud flaps. This will also work if you cut the bumpstops in half allowing you more flex, but it will still rub slightly at full lock and fully stuffed.

thanks for the replies guys.......
yeh, yeh IFS sucks, I know. I'm gunna go solid front end next time round, when the lease is up in 18 months or so. Prolly a TD 78 Troopy.
I think I'll go for the 32's to be sure, and without pushing the gearing out too far. I crrently run 235/85/16's, so the OD is about the same as 32/11.5's.

I put 33's on mine, IFS 4Runner. Stock saggy springs, and 2 1/4 inch body lift.
My hammer fixed the problem I was having with the inner gaurd at full lock!!
I have 8 inch rims, with a pretty big offset.

I put 33's under the Surf with a 3" body lift with Hilux offset rims with no touching at all (damn close though) and a minor wind of the torsion bars.
I then scored my mates 15 x 10"rims, wacked my 33's on them and they scrubbed every where.
Fixed that with a trim of the mudflaps with a stanley knife and beat the hell out off the panel lip with mister lump hammer. Also had to trim a piece of the front quarter panel right down the bottom near the lip with the tin snips. Repaint with some under body black and looks good.
Mind you I had to stick on some 30mm bushwacker flares onto the existing factory flares to cover the wheels as they now stuck out the sides.
Happy as because they added about 5" width to the Surf and that made a difference both on and off road.

Alec etc....
You reckon the smaller the back spacing/more offset the better? to a degree of course. Some time ago I put on a "Navara offset" with a 32 on it on the front, and it scrubbed on the front end also. Must have been too much back spacing. I'm confident that the back will be cool.
So 15x8's, with solid (?) inch back spacing is the go.....?
What is the standard for solid front hilux backspacing?
skinnies I'm running a cool for touring, but when the rear end is at full droop, it's almost like the damn wheel is gunna tuck under!
Big Tyres for IFS Hilux

Boopa,
I now own 34*9.5 swampers. Once I get some rims I'll tell you if they fit my 99 IFS Hilux. Remember the IFS has a lot less travel than a rigid axle and therefore (in theory) should take a larger tyre.
I'm going to mount the swampers on standard lux rims to keep them narrow and then see what happens after that.

Sorry Boopa, no idea on the backspacing measurement. They where just 15 x 8"s out of the book to siut a hilux with IFS. Check with your local tyre / wheel shop as they should look it up for you no probs. As I said they fit 33's with a 3" body lift and no scrubbing.
Cruiser offset is wider and you will have to mod the panel lip and guard etc

Hemp, have you got, or are you going to do a body lift?
I'd be very interested in the results. They're not going to stick out of the guards either, but a pretty big OD none the less.
I just asked you this size question over on the OL forum
Thanks for the reply Alec.
Hemp has thrown up another option re size, but I really can't afford to run a second set of wheels and tryes, and the swampers wouldn't wear too well as a daily proposition I'm guessing?

I got same question, got 98 ifs twin cab running 31x10.5 goodyear wrangler atr with -22 cruiser offset rims and wheels sticking out a bit too far. Wheels touch back lip on guard when suspension compressing and steering half lock. what would be biggest wheel able to fit and what mods required. Spoke to ARB and they recomend not to touch suspension or body lift and stick with 31s and fit navara offset rim and just get more aggresive tyre. Would like to set up and play in mud more.
