Tents

Lads,
Currently doing a bit of research into touring tents and have looked at a few namely Southern Cross , Freedom and also the Oztrail which is about 1/3 of the price of the other two.
Is it worth the extra to spend on a Southern Cross or Freedom tent?

I have the oztrail and have camped many times in heavy rain and wind and no real probs in 2 years. just water proof it properly and buy the centre pole removal kit.

If you can go away and never have bad weather then its not nessary to spend the extra.
but then one freak storm or overnight drenching may make you wish you had. I currently have a freedom tent, It has paid for itself may times over. i have been in storms whilst in north western australia that have taken out every tent but mine, and turned a caravan around on its wheels so it was facing another direction. things like the spring loaded pole in the freedom tent works really well to take the strain off the pegging points in bad weather.
I have a freedom tent so im probably biased. but id get one again for sure, but i dont think i will ever need to.

I have a Freedom tent, mates have Southern Cross. All around 15 years old and in very good condition and do not leak no matter how heavy it rains. Suppose whether they are value or not depends on how long you want to keep it and the amount of use it will get. The only thing that annoys me about my Freedom tent is it folds down into a package around 1 metre square x about 75 mm high which is hard to pack in the back of the Rangie. A bigger vehicle or roof rack is no problem though.

anyone recomend anywhere in sydney to buy a decent tent?
i dont really want something too big (4man is perfect) but it also needs to be able to be packed up small enough

anaconda have some good ones for the $$.
i have a oztrail and packs up well and works good so far.
