6-Point cage

Hi Dad got me a 6-Point cage out of a N/T Daihatsu Feroza that we're going to mod to fit into my 91 WT, my question is how have people mounted them in the front? have you cut the dash and made them sit close to the windscreen or do you just bring it down in front of the dash and to the floor? if you do it that way do your legs hit the bar when your driving on and offroad? Some pics would be helpful.

Through dash is the only way I think for strength of cage, interior room, and minimising leg injuries in a crash.
Be careful with a 6 point cage. Your registration authority will likely have very specific rules about head clearance for a 6 point cage and these clearances are very hard to achieve in a sierra. ( And were not achieved in the car pictured above)
In many cases, a 6 point cage will actually make the car less safe in a rollover... why? Because the reduced head clearance will mean you will strike the cage much harder than you would the interior of the car.
IMHO, 6 point cages really need to be accompanied with race seats, harnesses and helmet, otherwise you are likely to not be any better off.
In any case, any rollover where the cage could do any good would result in the car being destroyed.
Just some things to contemplate before you do lots of work.

yeah and if gwagensteve rolled that car on the road, the interior would not do much good to stop your faced being sanded off by the road.
I'm all for 6 points in a soft top zook, even when the factory window and frame work are over your head, it doesn't stop much. my mate rolled on stockton beach and the roof and window collapsed down to bonnet, doors and tail gate.
I also think it makes the car more structually stronger.

Just lookin at gettin a cage done in a few months and i want internal as i don't really like the look of exo's and if not done right they can get hooked up on stuff!
BUT the head room is what i'm worried about! What is the best diameter tube to make the cage from thats not too big and not too small? I would be gettin someone to make it and it would be the whole kit and cobudel!
Just woundering!

Have a look at Grimbo's exo suzuki boy, there is also an excellent exo on pirate (search on the mercedes page under mog axled rigs - the thread is about an SJ410 with mog diffs)
I think you're fairly tall suzukiboy - even in a light flop onto your side i'm pretty sure you'll hit your head on the cage. I just don't think there is really enough room for a safe 6 point in a sierra if you run it so the top and b pillar can go back on.
Greg's car (the green one) was built to run the cage as close as possible to the stock window bars and B pillar as this car was run plenty with everything closed up. It was still very (worryingly) close to the driver's head.
Be realistic about the type of rollover you are trying to protect yourself from.
A high speed roll on the road or a multiple roll offroad? You'll need a harness and helmet as well or you sill strike the cage. A low speed flop offroad? a light exo or even the stock stuff is OK. Christover's car has been on it's side about 9 times, sometimes pretty hard, and it has always been beaten back into shape fine. It's never had any type of cage at all.

Yeah cheers for that only really want something to be safe!
Hopefully i will never need to use it! As for being on it's side thats probably it(Only been on it once so far!).
Before i do any thing i will search up heaps! AND JOIN THE ZOOK CLUB!

Thanks for all your imput, so instead of doing a 6-point, i might just do a 4-point with cross-bracing, so then my head is nowhere near the cage as it'll be behind the b-pillar.

I have seen a six pointer where the front hoops (A pillars) went over the top of the taga from the 'B pillar' hoop bar but finished up level with the widscreen as per normal
Kinda half way betwwen a internal and exo
Provides more head clearance. Actually i think with regards to head room the original space is not intruded at all
Bikini top fits as normal
First of the pic below shows the dash cut outs
The last is the base plates.
DO NOT do an install with out these. Big washes are CRAP. The plates go on the underside of the body to stop the cage ripping out.
DO NOT use cheap shiat bolts, only use the correct size hi-tensile bolts
DO put padding on the front hoops

Gwagen steve is correct, headroom gets pretty critical... hence the paddign requirements.
Have a 6 point in mine, removable bracing on the main hoop so i can still have the back seats usable on road.

Laid it down at CityView november last year, didn't have the harness bar in and no diagonal brace in main hoop (thanks Dale from 2D for fixing) and it shifted about 30mm at the top of the windscreen hoop...

Have to admit, when playing i feel happier having it in, but when it was out for a bit, there was a hell of a lot more room in the cab.

best part is you can open your doors at full flex and be able to close them again without having to be on flat ground to do so.
when mine flexed i couldnt open or close the doors roll cage fixed that and gave me support to rest my foot on near the accelerator which helps over the bumpy stuff, oh and hopefully it stops me from dying to
