Hey all , the time has come to get a bigger 4b and about the only suitable one is the 80 series .. need some advice what to look out for, what is the early carby model petrol like compared to the injected model , would love the turbo diesel but everyone is asking too much for them, have driven alot of cruisers over the years but never owned one so tell me the most comon problems , rust areas, gearbox problems etc etc .. have seen a few 93-93 gxl multi point inj models for around the 8-9 grand .. is that the going price ...
thanks in advance ... Lee

Depends on what you are towing. I can tow my tinnie OK, 4m, maybe weighs 500kg, but if I hook up my ski boat, 5m, Chev powered, weighing around 13-1500kg, it kills the economy, but does it easy.
I don't take it easy either, I set cruise and make it do anything it has too to remain on 110kph.
Cheers

not that i ever thought id help you but...
there is tons of 4.5 petty 80 series on the net for $4000 to $8000.
if your really after a turbo diesel i know of 2, one going for 10k and the other for 11k, both gxl one has high ks but has had the engine rebuilt and he has reciepts, the other was average ks, clean on the outside but could use some of your missos cleaning touch inside, both on the sunny coast..
also there is a few diesel pov packs here for $4000 to $6000...
if you can bring yourself to pm me for the details go for it.

I'm a turbo diesel fan .. if you like a petrol engine 1FZ-FE ( choose this one ) it's a excelent engine .. but the 1HD-T engine it's most amazing engine that you ever drive ..
You can tow a 40 series easy with this engine .. also ou get extreme reliability .. you can tunned it up to 14 PSI stock internals and get a fantastic power ..
