im running a toyota carb on my 1.3 zook atm and most of the time when im flooring it in second up a bumpy dune it flatspots. at first i thought it was the fuel pump not keeping up but on the road i can hold high revs for a long time without it flatspoting. so im just wondering do many of u guys run a surge tank on your zooks? i was also thinking it is the float jumping around so much its not lettting enough fuel in, as it is a corolla carby and not a 4wd carb. besides this it runs like a dream. any ideas?

Surge tank - $90
Fuel lines - $30
Low pressure pump - $60
fuel regulator - $200
Answering your own question in the original post = priceless.
Put a sierra carb back on it. At least it will only run as crap as a carby sierra then, not as crap as a toyota carby trying to work on a sierra, on dunes, getting bounced around, something suzuki already tried..... which is why they chose the carb they put on them.

Steve - the toy carb it much better reliability wise then the sierra one in my opinion. i went through about 3 sierra ones, one rebuilt fully before i used the toy one. didnt have any aparent issues with it from there untill my engine had other issues. now EFI
u may get around it by using a low pressure pump inline instead or even just keepin the flow up there as the toy carb as slightly bigger primaries than the sierra one.
float adj mayb but may make it run rich. can u make it flatspot on road on hills? or just being bumped around.

i was just speaking to jim at perth carbies one of our good customers and he said the toy carb and the sierra carb are pretty much the same desighn on the inside except differant size jets and it doesnt have a coolant ran choke on it. he says i should check my float levels and go from their.
as for the prices on the surge tank nothin a bit of round alloy some flat plate and a hour in the shed cant fix. a crapy $25 facet fuel pump fuel line of the shelf and the regulator i got sitting at home. but i dont think its my problem the cars having.
im not a fan of the gutless 1.3 carby motor any way so i dont want to spend money on it. when i get time i want to put a 2000 model 2.7 hilux motor in the old girl. we got one as a work ute and they got soo much torqe.

after i got home from work i pulled the top of the carby off and found that the float was not cming down all the way. must of been a bit of dirt stuck in the needle and seat, maybe i got in their after i changed the fuel filter. any way ill take it for a bash tomorrrow arvo and see how it goes.
