My sisters 84 corrolla i think KE70? is having issues.

it starts rough all the time and wont start without throttle. it feels almost like its missing at start its that rough. then it will be fine how ever at low speeds/revs under load it does the same thing. driving up a hill it shudders and has no power then once the revs are right up or the hill flattens out she is fine.

i think its either a carby issue or a points issue. the spark how ever is strong and it i dont think thats the issue any ideas?

got a timeing light?

while car is idleing try wobble carby around if you can, and apply force to how its meant to be seated, see if idle changes ;)

not burning oil is it?

:bad-words: carby!

nah not useing any oil or leaking.

im going to rebuild the carby soon hopefully that will fix it up. otherwise im at a loss asto what it could be.

was thinking points but its not through the whole rev range

First thing that come's to mind is the dizzy shaft has play in it.

ie. when cold no lube and cold metal but When warm some lube and the metal has expanded enough to take up the slack, also at higher rev's it "sits" in it's groove's but when cold/under load it bounce's a lil and that cause's ya erratic spark.

Go look on toymod's, doubt it's the carb but wont hurt to reco it.

Could it be a vacuum leak maybe? eg: Inlet manifold gasket, carby loose etc...

Sounds typical of a worn distributor shaft bush or points gap too small. Check if there is sideways movement of the distributor shaft. If there is, try opening the points a little more. If the bush is worn the lobes will not maintain a correct and consistent points gap at starting and low rpm. At higher rpm the effect is less noticeable.

I am not familiar with the engine, so am assuming it has points.
