Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hey,

I have installed a Speco mechanical temp gauge in the zook (vitara 1.6 mpfi) and loving how accurate they are. it is mounted in the top hose with a speco adapter for the hose.

What is considered hot on the gauge as it doesn't have a red area only numbers. 40-120 i think in C. I can see once up to temp it will sit on 80-84 deg depending if thermostat is open or not. but unsure on hot range. i dont want to depend on the orig dash gauge as i believe it is wrong reading of the new motor.

Is this a general rule for most cars in terms of temp or different motors have different max temps.

ive got an autometer mech temp guage plumbed into the thermostate housing.. normal tempts are around 180f (which is about 82-84c)..

i have had it up to about 210f (98c) when pushing it really hard on some long hills coming back from Fraser island one year.. while this is heaps above the normal i think there could be a little more left in it before it gets dangerously hot.. i would think around 110c would be well in the danger zone.

not really anything useful here cept my experience but might give you an idea on the acceptable ranges.. these readings are for a 3.4l 4cyl diesel.

110-115 is pretty much the limit, but thats if u have antifreeze/antiboil is ur system, the sender being in the top hose will give u a good measure on the temp out of the engine. call me cautious but if my gauge is anywhere above 95 i shut the thing down, usually runs 70-80.

I run a speco mech temp guage and happy with anything from 85 threw to 100 deg cel, if over 100 I will really watch it, if it hits 110 I shut it down or at least stop and let the fans cool it down. In saying that since I have fitted the rear mount rad and AU fans it has only ever gone over 100 once and that was when only one of the 2 fans was working and I was working the motor hard on a hot day.

that was my ideas on the numbers but reassured me anyway.

Been reasonable cool here at moment so but only got it up to 90 loading it up in the sand.

On my v6 commodore the computer dosn't kick the fans in til 105 deg c.
The v6s seem to run hot though.
Those temps are with a speco electric gauge.
I have also wired in a over ride switch for offroading.

how long since you replaced your radiator cap? the avg one is rated to blow at around 113 ?
