Holden 253 What oil pressure?

G'day,

Anyone know what a holden 253 V8 is supposed to run roughly for oil pressure?

Going to get an adjustable oil pressure switch to run a oil pressure warning light and need to know roughly what pressure the motor would run normally.

Not after a stock oil light switch which tells you when the oil pressure is at siezing level, want to know the normal running pressure.

Thanks for any help.

Holden V8 has crap design oil pump, its a gear type, hot oil pressre can be as low at 9 psi at idle, ideally should be 60 psi by 3-4000 rpm. I dont generally suggest high volume oil pumps, what I always used when I could get them was the VN onwards pump that was 1/2 way between an aftermaket High volume pump and the old red/blue engine pump.

AFAIK red v8's can run as little as 5...yes 5 psi at idle. this is normal...
i believe they can be bumped up by punching the pressure relief valve (with the spring inside) in by 10mm or so...

but dont listen to me... im drunk lol

Thanks for the help,

Just what I needed to know.

Shimming the pressure pressure releif valve will only increase the pressure at higher rpm where the pump is capable of outputting more pressure and volume, their gear rotor design is the limitation as it is inefficient at low rpm.
