Can someone tell me about V band turbo's.

Apparently thats what is on my GQ and know nothing about it.

I have never heard of them but I'm not up on turbos.

A v band is simply a way of attaching two round objects together, there is a step machined into the two round pars then the V band goes over the two steps when the parts are brought together, the V profile of the 'band' (like a T bar hose clamp) forces the two steps together the tighter the clamp the harder it pushes the halfes together, there is usually an inside step or locator machined into tone half for a perfect seal.

in turbo;s this sort of flange can be seen either where the dump pipe connects to the exhaust housing, exhaust to dump pipe and often between the cores and exhaust/compressor housings, ussually seen in bigger truck turbo's.

they are quicker to dismantle and can be rotated easily, just losen the clamp and are less likely to have bolts seize (common with the exhaust housing retaining bolts) into the exhaust house etc. as there are no bolts going into the hot exhaust housing.
