HILUX 2.8L Turbo Diesel. (3L Motor)

Post by YSO81G »

Hi, my motor has just stripped the harmonic balancer off the crankshaft and theres no chance of machining a new keyway! So lookin at either rebuilding bottomend of what i've got, rebuild full motor, or buying another reco motor. is there other upgrade options say to a 3.0L Turbo Diesel 3L/T motor out of newer shape? Also, I live on the southcoast, south of sydney. Whatever you suggest, where would be the best place to be gettin reco motor from for quality of work and of course price? Hope ya can help. Cheers From Matt!

You can do following:

1. another 3L engine
2. A 5L engine, 3.0litre.
3. 1KZ, 3.0TD from hilux surf.

If you can, you best option is 1KZ. 130hp and bags of torque.

You could always go for the 5L and stick a turbo on later.

If your on a budget, 3L.

just throw another crank in it. time for new bearings anyway ;) fairly common problem, loctite the pulley onto the crank so it doesn't happen again.

you could fit a 5L motor but the engine mounts differ, not sure about aircon etc.

the 1KZ is a major job.

I thought 5L were same mountings??

1KZ is not that bad, just did my LJ70 a month or so back. More expensive, but well worth it.
