I have tried both large and small RTC and have gone back to a standard type steering damper. I run a light truck damper that only cost $100 and works perfectly.
What's the difference between ignorance and apathy? I don't know and I don't care.

I have been told that a Range Rover Bilstein steering damper works well on a Patrol but you lose a bit of steering lock.
Otherwise Procomp or Ironman (steering damper only) for the pin to pin type.
Procomp won't go on the later model GU Nissans so I only use the Ironman steering damper for them.

Price does have little to do with it I have found but some steering dampers are way better or worse than others.nzdarin wrote:Cheapest is best as the difference is so small it doesn't matter and they are very exposed to damage.

That is why you won't see me supply an EFS steering damper. Shocks are great though. Just too soft, may aswell keep your stock one, but I wouldn't personally change my steering damper unless I needed to which I have in the past and has made a big difference. That was with Bilstein.90Mav wrote:can't say i noticed any diffrence when i replaced the stock one with EFS..

I can't remember but it would be around $150 or $160. The Rangie people would know.Zac Zec wrote:How much are the bilstein steering dampers worth4WD Stuff wrote:That is why you won't see me supply an EFS steering damper. Shocks are great though. tyre size makes no difference to damper on road, I drove on un ballanced 37 mtr for 3 month on road with no vibrations, corragations is where you need them. I have used a old man emu 36mm bore steer damper for 6 years on 2 different patrols tyres from 33 to 37 cant complain but RTC is just a wank and once you get a stone chip or mark on the shaft it chews the seal out.

Anybody have a part number on the Bilsteins for a 91 GQ? I need to replace mine and the shipping is a fair bit to order from Australia. There are lost of Rangies around here, so should be able to buy then from my local parts jobber.
The procomp comes with a boot to protect the shaftnastytroll wrote:tyre size makes no difference to damper on road, I drove on un ballanced 37 mtr for 3 month on road with no vibrations, corragations is where you need them.
