Ok the twin thermos on a 88-89 Rangie............
Are they dual 9" Fans or Dual 10" fans???

I measure a bit shorter than 10" but thats by stickin a tape measure in through the grill while its all still attached ? ? ?

I reckon you would struggle to make 4 inches.

Use EF Falcon ones. Cheap and not English.

should be 10" assuming you mean the aux cooling fans the come on with the air conditioning.

I have been shopping for some for a while .. let me know what you come up with grimace,

Um everyone has been telling me that its only ment to be an aux fan for the A/C but Mine are on all the time ? ? ?
Well atleast the one thats workin is on all the time............. ? ? ?

Also when turning on the reds (not starting the car) its comes on, so I guess its activated as soon as the ignition is on reds ? ? ?

I was just gonna order a Craig Davis (Davis, Graig same shit I always type it wrong) replacement unit

how much ?

Well I was told by Graeme (Cooper Automotive) that a factory original replacement would cost around the $750 mark where as the Davis Craig unit should cost about $150 give or take a couple of red bacls

why are you replacing the front fans........waste of money...
get some el falcon thermos for the motor side of the radiator, take your normal fan off (a few KW's gained) and put a three way switch in.....
on - wheeling
off - wheeling through river/boghole
auto - streeting

this is the best setup and should only cost about $100

The engine driven fan on my RR runs much better than the electric ones could hope for, but if I was going to change it I with a VR commodore fan assembly incuding shroud which would work much better than two shroudless units.

the el falcon has a shroud around the twin thermos...
i am not talking about the aux thermos on the outside of the radiator...ofcourse your normal fan does a better job....but I reckon the thermos are going to do a better job....my falcon radiotor gets pretty cold to touch due to the air being sucked through

You can get the Falcon twin thermos new for about $220, I have them in my patrol with a 400 chev, stays nice and cool, even with a stuffed radiator.

I squeezed in a Subaru fan and a 626 fan side by side both roughly 14" diameter with their cowlings covering the 28"x14" radiator pretty well, had them hooked up to individual thermostats with a warning light on the dash that came on with the higher one of the 2.

the el falcon are a direct fit including cowling....minor bracket fab to fit

Couldnt agree MORE with landy_man,have been the twin craig davies route can pass the EL Falcon ones,have own shroud easy as all to fit and work a treat Do it once doit properly

Hi guys,

I'm lead to believe that you should use ford xr series twin thermos as they have a lower profile and fit a rangie perfectly (so to speak). Since I'm rebuilding after a short flight in mine I will let you know how they go. It's time to lose that old self destructing rover one.

Anthony wants to replace the front ac fans as his are buggered (so are mine which is what tweaks my interest)

But we are getting all this info on the radiator fan ?

The point is for less money, you can remove the engine fan AND the electric fans and replace with proper electric fans to do both duties.

I am interested in the topic brought up............

What if I replace the thermos at the front and later do a Forn Twin thermo setup and keep the two at the front aswell ? ? ?

I like the idea of removing the engine Fan but at the moment its just not a priority.............. heck even replacing the thermo is much of a priority to me the car is still running very cool even in traffic.

But atleast now I now that the thermos are 10" and only $99 bucks.
And I also know that the Ford Thermos must work pretty damn good

What is involved in removing the engine fan is it just a matter of undoing the four (ithink) bolts and detaching the fan? I dont think you would gain to much power by just removing the fan ? ? ?

ALso on this topic..........mine are on all the time ? ? ? and the AC does not affect them at all.............. WHY ARE MINE DIFFERENT TO EVERYONE ELSES ? ? ?

well there are two reasons that I can think of.

1. At some stage your car has had an overheating problem
and instead of getting the rad replaced or re-cored someone has by-passed the relay on the ac switch and just wired it into the accessory feed.

2. the relay on your has failed and is stuck in the "closed" position making it come on all the time.

So you could trace the power feed for the fans back and find out where it goes and what it is activated off.

BTW if it is running off the accessory line, then grab that feed and run it up to the firewall and put a relay on it marked accessory. That way you can easily run the other accessories you want off that rely and you can use it to control what you want on and off when the key is switched off (it can save you a lot of dicking around later)

Anthony, the thermo fans fotr the air con in front of the radiator have a switch on the manifold that that switches them on when the water temp gets too high. Try disconnecting the wire from that switch and seeing if the fans go off. perhaps the manifold switch is faulty.
