... and probably a new rotor. Lucky you didn't plant it into the ditch or oncoming traffic.

Must be the in thing for the left hand rear to fall off. I had this happen on the way home from work on tuesday.
But last people to touch the wheels was the tyre shop I brought tyres from less than 7 days previous. They replaced disk, studs, nuts and rim. I was lucky was on an empty country road. And the car just dropped to the ground. Didnt swerve at all from memory. SO just pulled over into the dirt.
Was a bitch to get the wheel back on though.

My left front came off in traffic on the way to work a few years ago. Some bastard had tried to pinch wheels cause rear was lose too and plastic caps were sitting on my nature strip.

The left hand wheelnuts on most vehicles will be looser than the right hand ones, because of the direction of rotation of the wheel. That's why a lot of trucks and older vehicles have left hand threads on the left hand side, to stop wheels coming off. The moral is, check your nuts.

especially if you run aluminium wheels. I nearly lost a right rear on my old shorty, lucky for the ff hub i say, but i had removed that wheel to repair a puncture 1000k before. Of course when i asked at ih8mud they all said, "yeah of course, didnt you know aluminium wheels have to be retorqued after a couple a hundred and around abouts 1000 evertime you remove them." Well I do now!
Steelies dont have the same problems. And its not a design flaw with either the wheels or nissan, its just what happens when you mix materials and couple that with a lack of appropriate procedures.

I have lost my wheels twice in the last 3 months.
First time was the front Left and the second time rear left.
The first time I was doing 90km on the Gt western highway and the 2nd time was the other week on the M4 heading down the mountian into Penrith.
On both occasiosns the nuts were tight (The second time by an air gun and then double checked).
I took it to Nissan and its due to my Alloy rims and the nuts not locking correctly and coming un done......No matter how tight I make them they come loose.
I run 16x10 alloys which now have to go before I kill my self......Its Fxxxing scary when the wheels overtake you....
